Your first BL?
What kind of car/truck and what system? What batteries?
Mine was a rustler xl5 with a sidewinder 5700 system on 2s impulse 3200 lipo. Such a fun truck. Needless to say it got a lot of use. |
Mine was a Tamiya Gravelhound DF02 buggy with a kontronik twist55 (5500kV) and a kontronik jazz car 70 ESC.
Batteries were 6S NiMH 3300mAh pushed and matched by hopf. Were good batteries back then, but still only ~10mins of runtime. And the Tamiya drivetrain couldn't cope with that kind of power for too long. I'm still thinking of getting a full metal drivetrain von tobee craft and put the kontronik system back into that buggy after I got it repaired (magic smoke went out the ESC a while ago), but this time with 2S lipos. Would be fun to shock some of the "nitro is so superior"-guys with my cheapo elo-tamiya:lol: |
5-6 yrs ago I bought the newly released Associated 18MT with the first Castle Mamba25 and my first Lipo was a ThunderPower 2100 2s that cost me $140.00 !!! OUCH
The truck was pretty cool for what it was, diffs blew constantly but I had fun w/it. |
Put a Mamba Max 7700 system in my old HPI RS4 and I was hooked!
yokomo CGM with novak ss system.
I was the first one who raced with bl at our local track |
Mine was a traxxas emaxx, with a
1) Jeti 80amp controller, and a 30/3 phaser motor, I ran a dual setup...... didn't like it, went back to a brushed system 2) Bk 1895 micro w/ 1920/7 lehner 3) BK 2095 micro w/ the same 1920/7 4)BK 2095 micro w/7xl 5) Quark 125b w/7xl This is in my EREVO 6) Quark 125b w/ Castle Neu 2200 KV |
Custom Works Dominator and a RC10 Stadium Truck with Team Pit Stop's Oval Conversion and both with a Aveox sensored ESCs and motors.
XL5 pede- rebuilt to VXL spec and a VXL system.
i figured a VXL system would be better as it was designed for the car  |
VXL system on 3s lipo in my slash, still just a nooob to BL.
Duratrax raze
Turnigy 50-55B 600kv outrunner 5s zippy 4000mah lipo ($50) Mamba max Thing was sick http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...10/Raze013.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...0/100_0956.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...0/100_0953.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...0/100_0968.jpg |
I had the original Traxxas Rustler with the 20T Stinger motor and Mechanical Speed Control and went straight to the MM 5700. With the same gearing and batteries (GP3300 6 cell pack) I picked up 10-20 MPH, doubled my run times, and had seemingly unlimited torque. That was enough to have me hooked!
mini-t, mamba 25/8000, 3s, Nothing but brushless since!
Original Emaxx that became heavily modded.... Running a 9L and BK18120 on 12, 14, and 16 NiMh cells. Them moved to a 7XL Wanderer.

Novak hv 4400 w/maxamps 4.4k Nimh
Mamba Max + 5700 in a Rustler, with A123's.
novak SS 5800 in a Associated T4
My 1st BL was a Stampede rtr after my neighbor (When I moved to Chicago) came over with his big ass Clod maxx. ( I was racing 1/5 gas cars in NY) I was dissapointed with the pede and bought a brushed 3905 emaxx, then met Suicide Neil and TDC57 on Fagxxas site and dropped in a vtwinn with max amps batterys..( we all started somewhere) after that I met all you RCM dorks and 50,000 pages of reading and $10g later ... I will smoke all you FOO's
Nice BPP Torpedo chassis...those are rare these days....
rustler vxl. i got it used for $240 at my lhs the day after christmas because the original owner thought it would 70mph on a 6s nicd pack and only drove it once. this was almost 2 years ago.
novak ss 5800 when they were very first released, damn thing had no drag brake for 2wd truck and wasnt very impressive....
next was a hacker system for my second emaxx |
My first brushless truck was a full FLM stampede with a Novak GTB4.5r on various NiMH 4200 and 3800 packs. Tough as nails, but batteries were frying every other run, and I didn't have the greatest experience with the Novak system either.
my first brushless was recently with a trinity duo2 13.5 in my yokomo bd4.i had a novak gtb and yeah racing 3200mah 20c lipos.touring car driving was fun,esp with the duo2.but racing got tiring having to listen to various members of local club going on and on and on about rules.so quit that gig and bought myself a mbx5t chassis and am in the throws of brushless conversion with a mmm v3 and turnigy 500mah 30c 4s lipos.cant wait to get this puppy rolling
I had a Rustler (plain old Rustler) with the Novak HV4400 running on 14 IB3800 NiMH cells. Gearing: 18/90 (48P). It was fun! :mdr: That system was later upgraded to 4s 5K LiPos, MGM16016-3s, and LMT Basic XL2800. What a difference... :surprised:
my first bl system was a losi xcelorin 1/8, saved money for 3 months and it lasted 3 min:diablo::diablo:
My first was the 3905 with a novak 6.5 sintered rotor about a year and a half ago. The switch to brushless was hurried along when I ran in boggy sand on the first run without running in the brushed motors = 1 fried esc + 2 fried nimh's (cause I didn't unplug them)....complete noob
Losi Mini LST, Mamaba 25, Hyperion 5000kv, Intellect 1200mah 8.4V. Probably 3-4 years ago. TQ was unbelievable.
