Raging
I dropped $580 at Daves Discount Motors for a 30.5cc engine and dual pipes for my 5b. I got the order today.
Some unscrupulous bastard sent me a 29cc engine that is worth $110 less than I paid and a full horsepower less than the larger engine. I left a phone message and sent an e-mail, but they're out till monday. I believe they'll make it right and things will end amicably, until then RAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
That sucks Harold...
Sounds exactly like what happened to my wife today. She was trying to order tickets for my daughters b-day coming up. She had the tickets she wanted, date she wanted, etc, but, when she did the confirm order, the screen changed and the dates were different and the artist was different. To make matters worse, they will not exchange tickets or anything. Needless to say, we are out $500- and my daughter is not going to the show. |
Insert comment about wasting money on gas, when you should have went brushless
Serves you right. :whip: :diablo: |
DDM will make right, they have excellent customer service. I'll bet they even offer a UPS prepaid label to ship the wrong one back.
|
Mag- That sucks man. Try to sell the tix you got stuck with on craigslist. Maybe recoupe some money?
asheck- I fell into a 5b. No nitro for sure!! but this thing is fun!! Bondoscrotum- I bet you're right. I've heard nothing but good about DDM, that's why I ordered from them. Pics coming soon guys... |
Sorry in advance..

Now...I absolutely love brushless, so don't get me wrong, and I am building another nitro Supermaxx just for the hell of it, but "gasoline powered" vehicles are a completely different world, and well worth NOT converting them to brushless!
The sound, smell, and power of a true ringed-piston, spark-plugged, pre-mixed gasoline, engine-powered vehicle is a bug that bites you instantly the very second you get a chance to run one, and there is just nothing like it, nothing even comes close! Brushless HPI Bajas are really cool, and sometimes you find yourself "having" to convert them from gasoline to brushless for various reasons (Mike's conversion kit is without question the best that money can buy), but they are nothing like when they were gasoline-powered! Just my $0.02... |

Hi guys.I often get the wrong parts! My esc from hobbywing go's weird(no reverse, got reverse, varying brakes, etc) They want $28 postage on a 40 gramme item.LOL. I'll try to get an email from the eshop I got it from.
|
Harold, I ain't mad at you. I just wanted to see if all Baja drivers were the over sensitive type.
That's a nice looking setup. But I have to question the effectiveness of the dual pipes, for ideal tuning. Quote:

I'm a 'lil worried about tuning in general. I hope the pipe will be okay, it's made for the 5b by jetpro so it should be cool. I've been reading up on the baja forum about tuning, I'm going into this blind. It's not the sound of a 2-stroke for me, it's the smell. If I smell a lean mix my heart gets pumping. I snowmobiled from the age of 10, and averaged 2000 miles a winter of riding. Oh how I miss it. Now I r/c:yes: |

I know the guys building these things know these things, but often time the "coolness" of an item, will overcome the ugliness of functionability. Intuitively I would want a short, fat pipe for good bottom end torque. But again, what do I know about this Baja motor, 0. |
You're right on the money asheck. Improper backpressure is almost as bad as an air leak. I'm hoping these pipes are symetrical enough as to equalize each other and allow a good tune.
Worst case scenario it's a blubbering failure, then I seal off one side and only use one pipe. It actually states you can run one side or the other if you want to balance other components you may have on your car, or run 'em both for balls to the walls power. We should all know in a week or two, I'll let y'all know:yes: |
For me it's Kawasaki Racing Oil mixed 32:1 that does it! I even run it in my 1996 Polaris SLX780 (778cc Triple-Cylinder 2-Stroke) Jet-Ski...except in a 50:1 ratio, since that's what it calls for. As soon as my triple-pipes get here, my HP will go up from 96HP to 138HP...and I should finally reach the 80mph mark!
http://pics.offroadextremes.com/skis/slx_780_02.jpg http://pics.offroadextremes.com/skis/slx_780_14.jpg Edit: This is what it will look like some day when I can get the correct parts & pieces. http://pics.offroadextremes.com/skis/custom_slx.jpg |
my xlt was a 600 triple, when I put the triple pipes on, jetted and clutched it I would walk all over 7 and 800's out of the hole. They'd sometimes pull away on the top end, but only on a huge field or lake.
I love polaris triples! You'll love the pipes! Good looking pwc man! |
Thanks...I bought it new in '96 and have enjoyed it every summer since then, except the summer after I broke my back (riding it all day still kills my back)!
In stock form, the '96 SLX780 was the fastest ski on the water in 1996 & 1997, unless one of the racers put their '96 SLX780 Pro or '97 SLX785 Pro in the water, but those didn't count because they were not production skis or even sold to the public at that time, they were only sold to the factory racers. All of the "all-yellow" '96 SeaDoo XPs running around thought they were bad-ass until my SLX got through with them, heh! My 778cc ski beat their 910cc skis out of the hole and on top-end! Since all Polaris skis up through '97 were powered by Fuji engines, they are the most sought after years, because the '98 and up skis were powered by Polaris-built engines and just weren't as fast, and couldn't be made very fast...not as cheaply or easily as you could a Fuji-powered ski, anyway. Hell, it's still one of the fastest skis on the water, and it's 14 years old! The only mods to it are a Solas prop and the stock Ocean Pro carbs, which I sent to Ocean Pro and had them bore/build them. They are jetted for the stock exhaust right now, but will simply need a re-jet when the pipes get here. I might run a dry water-box after it gets piped, depending on how loud it is. If it's too loud with a dry box, I will run a modified wet box. Anyway, I am getting the thread way off course... |
I freaked out prematurely. DDM assured me that despite the 29cc sticker that was on my motor that I got the 30.5 that I ordered.
Now to install the bad boy... |
Doesn't make a whole lotta sense, If it's a 30.5 why would there be a 29cc sticker on it in the first place ?
|
Is it a 29cc base that they bore to 30.5cc?
|
Well sure that makes perfect sense but after all that work why leave the sticker on a freak people out ?
|
yep, a 29cc base stroked to 30.5
If you look on their site the 29's have a 29cc sticker and the 30.5's have the same sticker in the same spot but it's blank. Maybe they photoshopped the 29cc out for their store pic. Whatever, I trust them. Either way, I'm getting wrenching. |
You can always tear the engine down and break out the digital calipers. But I'm not sure on the starting measurements to compare to.
|
I am sure they are working on getting some new "30.5cc" decals/stickers made up to put on the 29cc engines that they bore/stroke (I am sure the 29cc is BORED to 30.5cc, not STROKED to 30.5cc) to 30.5cc.
