my plan

ok guys i finally got some $$ comin in i already bought my controller (quark 80amper) and ive got a motor but i plan on changing it cause it has a 5mm shaft and thats over kill for my truck. im going to run lipos and i think i finally found my ideal setup:004:

rs4mt( until i make my custom 1/10scale :018: )
these packs http://www.cheapbatterypacks.com/tpl...id=TP2000-3SPL (going to run 2 of them wired in parallel)
my motor i have now( but i plan on going with a 380c 7L or 8L if they make em :032:

so does every thing look ok? does fegiao make a 380c 7-8L?

MetalMan 06.27.2006 02:40 PM

Are you set on the TP batteries? If you're using those batteries for their really low weight, then I understand. If you don't mind adding a little more weight, you can get some other packs that will perform just as well for half the cost.

stampy 06.28.2006 10:19 AM

nop i getting them cause they are the only packs that will fit were i wont them to :018:

neweuser 06.28.2006 10:47 AM

I would still like to hear your suggestion metal...thanks

MetalMan 06.28.2006 11:05 AM

Well, what's your size like? Maxamps makes a 2s 6000mah 10C battery that I use in my Tamiya Dark Impact - it's the same size of a 6cell NiMh battery. There are also other companies that sell packs using Enerland cells (Flightpower, Hyperion, PolyRC, Polyquest) that fit well where 6 NiMh cells fit.

neweuser 06.28.2006 11:10 AM

I run the Gorilla Chassis, and would like Lipos to be comparable to the 16 cell nimh cells i'm runnin, but i want to drop the weight off. See my sig, would like to hear your suggestion. I would like something cost effective but powerful with speed. Mike suggested 2 5s Lipo packs in parallel, 7400 mah

MetalMan 06.28.2006 08:10 PM

Mike's idea would work, but wouldn't be too cost effective (IMO at $400). From Maxamps you could get a 2s 6000mah pack and a 3s 6000 pack and run the 2s on the side where the motor is and the 3s on the side opposite the motor (good weight distribution). This setup is only $200.

stampy 06.29.2006 07:37 AM

I plan on running my packs side by side style. so ive only got about 70mm to work with total length. ive only seen 1 pack that will fit were 6sub c's will that i liked and that was the maxxamps 4000mah 3s pack. every other pack that i looked at was 142mm long and 6sub c's arnt 142mm long. the max size i got is 135~ by 45mm by 25mm and i havent found a good pack that will fit in there :002:

neweuser 06.29.2006 09:03 AM

Good deal! I likethat idea since my motors is more on one side....

MetalMan 06.29.2006 09:23 AM

stampy, what about the first pack on their homepage?
http://maxamps.com/index.html?lmd=38892.783403 45mm x 24mm x 135mm

neweuser, of course!

stampy 06.29.2006 09:29 AM

its 2s i need 3:027:

MetalMan 06.29.2006 10:37 AM

Ah, I see. SpeedyBL has a Kokam 3s 3200mah pack that he says is the same size as a 6cell NiMh pack. What are your thoughts on the Maxamps 3s 4000mah?

stampy 06.29.2006 10:41 AM

3200 i just dont know if thats enuff mah for me.the thing that worries me about the maxxamp pack is the quality is it any good ive heard some bad things about there packs. any way i plan on getting the tp packs from maxxamps, they said they would price match them for me. is there any thing wrong with the tp packs or somthing?

MetalMan 06.29.2006 11:18 AM

Yeah, 3200mah isn't much.
Maxamps does a good job with their packs (IMO). My 2s 6000mah pack from them has remained working well, and it has maybe 7 or 8 cycles on it (it'll get a lot more use when I get the Mamba Max). The only thing that I think could be argued against Maxamps is the cells that they use. But even then, Maxamps does usually try to get the better cells for use in their packs.

There's nothing wrong with TP packs, but they are quite expensive. My money will never go toward them because I can get something that has a better performance/cost ratio.

stampy 06.29.2006 01:13 PM

i might go with the 4000mah maxxamps pack but i worry about that amp rating  do you think that would be enuff for basicly a fegiao 8s or there 380c7L do they make a 380c7L? if heard the 6L doesnt like 3s lipos:002:

MetalMan 06.29.2006 06:47 PM

It might be pushing the amp rating. You might have better luck with cells that can handle more.

stampy 07.06.2006 05:05 PM

well i ready to buy some batts. now should i go with the 4000mah 3s pack from maxxamps or should i just get 8 4200ib's?

lipo good:
its lighter and might deliver more punch

the bad:
amp rating worries me
its more expensive with balancer included

ib's good:
the 4200s are cheaper
the way im going to run them i can charge them as to seperate 4 cell packs for faster charging since my charger has to out puts

ib's bad:
there heavier

what should i do?

neweuser 07.06.2006 05:08 PM

go LIPO!!!! Go with a diff amp rating?

MetalMan 07.06.2006 05:13 PM

If you don't mind the extra weight of the IB4200s, then get those. I think it would be best to stay on the safe side and not risk pushing the Maxamps 3s 4000mah pack to its limit.

stampy 07.07.2006 06:52 AM

i think your right metal. ima go with the ib4200's for now then when i build my new truck to replace my rs4mt ill go lipo

i guess i changed my mind :027:im going lipo- hyperion 3s 3700mah pack will fit perfect were the text is in the pic. o and I got my controller today :043: cant wait to get it up and going

Gustav 07.11.2006 02:23 PM

How come you didn't think of that before?:005:
Should have more steering like that anyway with a little more weight up front.
Are those gladiator 2s? my favourite tyres, they work everywhere.

stampy 07.12.2006 08:22 AM

yep should be sweet:). yep there gladiators great tire they've lasted sooo long its crazy.

o and i did switch it back to 4wd since i took the pic notice the ribed front tires lol i dont think they will grab real good now that its back to 4wd :005:

got my pack and balancer yesterday :004: had to do some more modifying but it fits but barely

MetalMan 07.15.2006 10:18 AM

That thing should be a rocket!

stampy 07.15.2006 11:12 AM

any buddy have a hyperion lba6 balancer? right now ive got the pack hooked up to the balancer and the balancer on the charger, charging the pack but for some reason cell 1 and 3 are blinking red rapidly and every now and then cell 2 will blink green what does that mean? when i had the pack hooked up to the balancer off the charger it indicated that the cells were balanced but why are only cell 1 and 3 blinking red when charging :032:

stampy 07.15.2006 02:10 PM

well got it all balanced out charged it up but my charger errors at about 12.4 volts i dont know why maby because the balancer it cutting the voltage to the pack :032: but drove it for about 5 min maby need to glue my front tire on i know that would come zinging of at 1/4 power. oh and BELTS SUCK:mad:1 just shredded my rear belt on the first hit of about 3/4 throttle and flipped the truck over lmao this thing is crazy :004:

MetalMan 07.15.2006 11:21 PM

What charger are you using? I use a LBA6 clone, the Great Planes Equinox.

stampy 07.15.2006 11:22 PM

the mrc 977

MetalMan 07.15.2006 11:29 PM

That's odd. How do you have the balancer/battery/charger wired up?

stampy 07.16.2006 11:03 AM

balancer plugged into the charger and pack plugged into the balancers balancing leads is that wrong it charges fine but when it gets to about 12.4-5 volts the charger errors but only then i think the balancer is sensing 1 cell reaching full charge and is cutting the power to the pack cause if you take a normal nimh batt start a charge then unplug the batt with out stoping the charge the charger will do the same thing. any way spent 10min maby out with my truck this morning after work and WOW this thing is nuts! i think when you can sizzle spit on the slipper clutch its time to bring it in :017: .im a bit over geared cause the motor is getting pretty hot but the batt and controller are luke warm but i cant really do much about it since a 14tooth pinion is the smallest ive seen in 32p 5mm bore :002:

MetalMan 07.16.2006 11:18 AM

If you are charging at 3.7amps, try charging at no more than 3amps. The reason is because the taps on the battery and balancer have thin wires that can't quite take charge current. The next time you charge, check how warm the balance wires are getting.

stampy 07.16.2006 11:36 AM

no the first charge was at 1 amp lol then the second time i bumped it up to 2 amps

MetalMan 07.16.2006 12:03 PM

That is very strange. You could try hooking the battery directly to the charger, with the balancer connected to the battery, and see how it charges then.

SpEEdyBL 07.16.2006 07:09 PM

The LBA6 balancer cuts out when one cell reaches 4.3 volts. Check the voltage of each of the cells right after this happens to see if this is the case.

stampy 07.17.2006 11:25 AM

cool ill do that its about finished charging right now

stampy 07.17.2006 11:36 AM

found the problem, my chargers voltage reading is off it reads 12.33 volts but the dmm reads 12.65 wtf

stampy 07.17.2006 02:05 PM

omg this thing is NUTZ  ill try to get a vid off it on wed or thu.
