Is your BL MT Gettin' Heavy?

Just curious how heavy is everyone elses brushless MT setup with and without batteries. I feel that my setup is just way too heavy..

No batteries 16Lbs (7.25kg)
12 Cells 18Lbs (8.09kg)
18 Cells 19Lbs (8.51kg)
24 Cells 20Lbs (8.93kg)

nl12 08.29.2006 08:27 AM

I dont know the weight without batteries, but with 8s lipo my CRT weighs 11.8 pounds its got a 2240 that weighs it down, any truck with a 22 series motor will be on the heavy side, your 2280 probably weighs twice as much as my 2240 so it doesnt sound too overweight. You could switch to lipo and save a few pounds, it might help the wear and tear on the drivetrain too.

Nick 08.29.2006 08:32 AM

Mine is about 12lbs RTR with 16cells. Mine is all metal but 7075 mostly and some Titanium, which takes weight off compared to the cheaper stuff. :D

aqwut 08.29.2006 10:08 AM

wow.. my maxx has to go on a diet... I'd love my maxx to be 16lbs with 24 cells.. how the heck am I gonna shed some weight.... I would like to lose atleast 2 lbs... and I'd be happy..... new flextek arms..., gonna get id of my bottom plate... hmm.. cuz the top plate is pretty much nothing...

Mike.L 08.29.2006 10:53 AM

damn man my maxx wieghs 12lbs with 12 cells on it.

Serum 08.29.2006 11:05 AM

With 4S mine weights just under 7lbs.

aqwut 08.29.2006 11:15 AM

it must be the acncm chassis... cuz I have nothing on that e-maxx... except 4 40mm fans... 1/4 scale steering servo.. is only 100 grams more than a regular servo... that's it.. That bottom plate isn't heavy either.. I drilled out like a hundred 3/4" holes.... I'm gonna take everything off and weigh just the chassis skeleton..

Serum 08.29.2006 11:19 AM

The g-maxx weights next to nothing..

coolhandcountry 08.29.2006 11:26 AM

If I remember correctly aqwut. Your chassis looks very heavy and beefy.
May all aluminum emaxx with batts is 13.5lbs. The tires are heavy and add some serious weight. I can loose the tires for a few lbs. If you do it
right you should be able to get under the 15 lb mark. If you keep going with a 100 grams here. 100 grams there. After a while you will have a 1000 grams on the truck and don't realize it. I will go with a heavier weight if it
means the truck is stronger. If you take the motor off you loose a few lbs on the truck.

aqwut 08.29.2006 11:33 AM

That must be nice serum... 7lbs is just amazing...
4 fans.. < 100 grams
1/4 scale servo.. 152 grams
Lehner 2280.. 800 grams
24 Cells IB4200.. 1680 grams (if I go 8s 8000 MaxAmps 1460)
MGM 24160.. 95 grams
motor plate.. < 100 grams
BEC.. 25 grams
receiver cover.. <50 grams
traxxas servo.. 43 grams
Receiver.. 21 grams
Mis, wires, connectors.. 100 grams

3.166Kg .. almost 7Lbs for the electronics, batteries..
so the roller is over 5.75Kg (over 12.5Lbs) that's crazy..

aqwut 08.29.2006 11:37 AM

Yeah.. I think I"m gonna cuz that whole bottom plate out and leave room for just the batteries... maybe I'll change the wheels and tires too.. I actually never thought about the wheels & tires... I have 10mm cvds in the front and rear.. should I use the beefier cvd on the front or rear?.. I have an extra pair of mips.. I think I might ask mike to make a custom chassis to fit a 1/4 scale servo and 24 cells, 2280...

Serum 08.29.2006 11:49 AM

With the hitec TG servos there is really no need for a 1/4th servo.

aqwut 08.29.2006 12:29 PM

I had the airtronics 200oz servo... yeah.. maybe you're right.. I have an airtronics 200 oz/inch servo laying here too.. brand new... but I like that 1/4 scale servo.. it took some tremendous beatings.. and is only 100 grams more.. :) you're right Leroy, 100 grams here and there.. but it's really tough..

aqwut 08.29.2006 12:32 PM

wow.. that 5995 servo is cool.. 333oz/inch...

Serum 08.29.2006 12:49 PM

Yeah, that's the one.. :p

And your maxx lost 4oz again...

cart213 08.29.2006 12:51 PM

I'm currently building a TT ST-1 truggy with a Neu 1512 and A123 cells. It should be just over 9 lbs rtr.

Serum 08.29.2006 12:56 PM

sounds like a fun project!

aqwut 08.29.2006 12:59 PM

cool man.. keep the weight down.. :)

coolhandcountry 08.29.2006 01:22 PM

You may want to look at the 5955 tg hi tec. Not the 5995. They are real close in specs. The amount of movement is different.

aqwut 08.29.2006 02:27 PM

thanks... it should work with my futaba 3pk pcm
or do I need HRS

coolhandcountry 08.29.2006 03:16 PM

The futuba has the epa on it. You can cut it back some. no need for the hrs.

Serum 08.29.2006 03:48 PM

What is HRS boys?

It's digi, so HRS could benefit you somewhat if you were racing. I run my 3PK in HRS mode and response is great with digi servos!

I too thought about a 1/4 scale servo, the holding power in them is amazing!

Not a good idea on a race truck though.

High Response System. It reacts really quickly with digital servos. 5 Times faster than the likes of airtronics M8. If you use it with analog servos you get this strange vibrating buzzing noise. and if you use it long term, you'll see some flames! (According to Futaba)

Serum 08.29.2006 03:51 PM

what does that hrs stand for?

MetalMan 08.29.2006 04:13 PM

It looks like Darren edited his last post. Look there, Serum.

Serum 08.29.2006 04:15 PM

Thanks Metal.

Finnster 08.29.2006 04:24 PM

20 lbs, 2250 and 24 cells? I dub thee Project Overkill. :)

squeeforever 08.29.2006 06:18 PM

Mine was about like Serums. Less than 8lbs. RTR. I was running a XL3100 on 12 cells and the thing was fast as a bat out of hell...

aqwut 08.29.2006 09:48 PM

and to think I was goin' to get the 3080... thank God I didn't.... I'm jus gonna keep that 2280 for display.. or maybe use it as a hammer... If i can get a roller that's about 7lbs - 8Lbs, Ill be happy... I would like 16lbs with 24 cells.... that would be good for me... i will invest in one of those Hitec TG servos.. I never knew they had them ..... awesome.... Anyone knows (roughly) the weight of a fastlane machine compared to stock... maybe build all fastlane, except with flextek arms... their warranty iis very good?

RobK 08.30.2006 12:35 AM

Serum,

Can you outline what you've done to get down to 7lbs with 4S? That's just unreal!

My Revo with Maxamps 8000 is about 10lbs 2oz, or about 8lbs 10oz without batteries. I'm running the 40 series proline bowties on 23mm adapters, custom conversion (Revo chassis, emaxx battery trays). I've got the traxxas Al pushrods/turnbuckes, Al pivot balls. My servo is a little heavy maybe, an airtronics '357 w/heatsink. I also have the gorilla single speed conversion with an Al output shaft. Oh yea, I have the Novak HVMaxx 6.5.

What can I do to shed 3 lbs?!?! I'm thinking about maybe the Gorilla CF chassis kit, but I can't imagine that would save much weight, would it?

Thanks!

-Rob

cart213 08.30.2006 08:15 AM

Running MT bowties instead of the 40 series should help a lot with your weight. Lower capacity, higher C batteries would also trim a lot of fat.

neweuser 08.30.2006 02:35 PM

Mine CF is light as all Hxxx! I love it!

aqwut 08.30.2006 03:37 PM

I envy all you light weights... :)

neweuser 08.30.2006 03:42 PM

Well, having a bigger motor makes the weight difference. You also need to beef things up too. The motor can push its weight though, or should be able to. Just remember speed + weight + crash = MEGA DAMAGE!

sjcrss 08.30.2006 04:17 PM

mine used to weigh around 13lbs....now it will way less then that now that I'm switching to a gmaxx chassis...and a few other things as well....should lighten it up ...

neweuser 08.30.2006 04:27 PM

There are many ways to lighten up a MT, but at what cost. You still want it durable, just a key thing to remember.

squeeforever 08.30.2006 04:30 PM

Remember, the Revo's are heavier than a Maxx. There alot beefier than a Maxx and that is why they weight 10lbs. on average.

neweuser 08.30.2006 04:46 PM

Yup, a tad heavier. If you take a stock emaxx, a stock revo, you can tell the difference, but it's really not that much in weight.

cemetery gates 08.30.2006 04:50 PM

my maxx is about 10 lb's RTR with 16 cells.

Actually, with 12 cells, the E-Maxx is heavier in stock from...BUT...an electric Revo is a good bit heavier because of the added weight of the batteries.
