Toasted MGM 160/24?
So after letting it sit for a couple months while I was busy, I finally test ran my CRT with 160/24 and Lehner 1950 7t on 6s lipo. It was running backwards, but I wanted to run so I just dealt with it for two passes up and down my street. Ran like a bat out of hell. Brought it in to switch the two wires on the motor to fix the backwards running. Turned it back on, and nothing.
I re-did the programming, still nothing. The controller would blink it's LEDs for the programming sequence, but instead of a motor beep sound, I would hear a pop sound. Repeated this numerous times and switched the motor wires back just to see. Same results each time. I noticed one of the external caps had broken next to it's mount on the board, so I soldered it back on. Still nothing. I hooked up the Lehner to a Mtroniks I have, and it worked fine. So i guess the question at hand is if any of you can think of something I missed. Or how is MGM warranty? Slow? Do I send it back to Mike or directly to MGM? |
Can be anything. Bad ubec, lipo cutt-off? bad receiver (i had a dead channel on my schulze receiver)
or the on/off switch (it's acting the other way around. When it makes a connection it's switched off, and if you cut the wires loose, it's on) |

does it make the motor beep, while programming?

Here's your answer, Serum.

Did you got yours from Mike?
|
Are you referring to me?
I got my original one about a year and a half ago, before Mike started selling MGMs (I think). With Mike's help, I got my repaired one back several months ago after waiting for 6 months. |
wooah man.... I'm sendin my 2 24160s for a software upgrade... I hope it doesn't take 6 months for this also.. I"m sending mine through Mike..

Now I'm pissed. Tried it again tonight after it passed my visual inspection. A little puff of smoke from the motor output side was the result of powering up. A $365 controller that worked for 30 seconds.
I went 6s also expecting to use this controller. Are the Quarks still experiencing difficulty on 6s? Now does anyone know the service situation with MGM? Still taking multiple months? |
Auch..
Please contact Mike about this. |
I know what you mean dude, those smoke shows from the ESCs are always a piss'r off'r......
|
I was in contact with Mike during the troubleshooting and will certainly contact him again. At this point I don't think I want it back even after repair.
Any answers for the other questions re: MGM service time and the Quark on 6s? Any way to put the smoke back in so it will work?:005: |
hey, if there's a repair fee, and you don't want to pay for it.. I'll pay it and keep it... :) if you really don't want it ;)
|
Looks like you have enough to keep ya busy allready.....
I hope some of these rumors about the Monster Max being just a few months out are true. My nitros can keep me entertained 'til then. |
as far as the quark holding up to 6s, i wouldn't count on it! i knew it was a risk on 6s, but purchased it anyway. mine won't work on 6s fully charged, it gradually starts to work as the voltage drops, maybe halfway through the packs. i was thinking about buying a 24/160 or 160/24, whatever it is. controllers suck! i havn't had one that works right yet.
|
Yeah, controllers do suck..... especially when you run them over their specs.. ;)
I bought 2 24.160...because one was for backup, but for my case, it's proven to an excellent controller.... it's holdin' up to everything I've thrown at it so far... and the best thing is, it hasn't thermaled yet.. not even once.... SH*T, I should've have said that... now something's gonna happen... :) |
I'm laying all of my hopes on Castle Creations shoulders.
They better do it right. |

If monster maxx is rated for 6s then it will work with 6s. I am personally going to wait untill the monster maxx is released for when i convert a 1/8th buggy to brushless.

i agree totally! only problem is that i havn't heard of anyone that has successfully run one on 6s, so i doubt the replacement will work! i think it will work at 22.2v, just not 25.2v fully charged? maybe i'll send it off along with my midrangeless 12020. i just want a controller that works properly on 6s!
|
By now, Quark has to have heard about the 6s issue and has looked into it. Maybe they already have a firmware revision out on the new ones? Who knows. I think it's worth a try - at least to call them and see what they say. They advertise it as 6s capable, then they should deliver. Hopefully it's just a software thing instead of a component. Whatever you decide to do, good luck and let us know how it turns out!
|
if i can get a number i'll call and see about a fix or replacement. the quark seems like a nice controller on 5s, when i turn it on i have to hit reverse throttle before it will make the last series of beeps and start working. don't know what thats about! sorry for the hijack, i'll shut up now!

Am I retarded? I can't seem to find the address to send this controller back to.
|
To send it to Mike? The address is around here somewhere. If you can't find it by using the search bar, you can e-mail Mike.

Update:
MGM received my controller the first week of November. I have sent three e-mails to them inquiring on the status. I've heard NOTHING. I wouldn't be upset with a month's time if I had some confirmation other than USPS that they even received it. I need it back for my Savage conversion. |

Similar thing happened to me about a year ago. I sent in my MGM Compro 12012, and after at least 10 emails and the passage of 6 months, I got it back, without any communication from MGM during that time.
|
Okay, this puts MGM low on my lis of controllers to buy..
Leaves us with CastleCreations and Quark. |
I'm always interested to hear about others' current experiences with MGM's service, since the BEC chip in my 12012 is dead, and will need to be sent in some time (but for now it works with using a UBEC or receiver pack).
|
I wonder if they want to pay me interest on my money while they have it.

I hope they can turn it around quickly for you. (or at least in a reasonable mount of time) |
That kind of sucks. Long time and no esc. Keep us posted on time frame.
|
I wouldn't hold my breath for interest though! And after a month and no communication, that is not good at all. It should not take that long to even look at an esc!!!
|
3 weeks later and no change. Does anybody have any experience making a claim against USPS insurance?
