Toasted MGM 160/24? - 09.30.2006, 08:38 PM

So after letting it sit for a couple months while I was busy, I finally test ran my CRT with 160/24 and Lehner 1950 7t on 6s lipo. It was running backwards, but I wanted to run so I just dealt with it for two passes up and down my street. Ran like a bat out of hell. Brought it in to switch the two wires on the motor to fix the backwards running. Turned it back on, and nothing.

I re-did the programming, still nothing. The controller would blink it's LEDs for the programming sequence, but instead of a motor beep sound, I would hear a pop sound. Repeated this numerous times and switched the motor wires back just to see. Same results each time. I noticed one of the external caps had broken next to it's mount on the board, so I soldered it back on. Still nothing.

I hooked up the Lehner to a Mtroniks I have, and it worked fine. So i guess the question at hand is if any of you can think of something I missed. Or how is MGM warranty? Slow? Do I send it back to Mike or directly to MGM?

Can be anything. Bad ubec, lipo cutt-off? bad receiver (i had a dead channel on my schulze receiver)

or the on/off switch (it's acting the other way around. When it makes a connection it's switched off, and if you cut the wires loose, it's on)

Steering is working and the esc is getting signal (note that the leds were flashing for the programming sequence) so I think it's in the output side of the esc.

I'm also curious to hear about MGM's current repair time, since my 12012 has a burnt BEC chip.

Are you referring to me?

I got my original one about a year and a half ago, before Mike started selling MGMs (I think). With Mike's help, I got my repaired one back several months ago after waiting for 6 months.

The pop sound is not a good sign. Call Mike he will most likely have you send it to him, but call him anyway.

Now I'm pissed. Tried it again tonight after it passed my visual inspection. A little puff of smoke from the motor output side was the result of powering up. A $365 controller that worked for 30 seconds.

I went 6s also expecting to use this controller. Are the Quarks still experiencing difficulty on 6s?

Now does anyone know the service situation with MGM? Still taking multiple months?

I was in contact with Mike during the troubleshooting and will certainly contact him again. At this point I don't think I want it back even after repair.

Any answers for the other questions re: MGM service time and the Quark on 6s?

Any way to put the smoke back in so it will work?:005:

hey, if there's a repair fee, and you don't want to pay for it.. I'll pay it and keep it... :) if you really don't want it ;)
