Andys Monster
Hi,
first of all I want to say hello to everybody, this is my first thread. And then I wish to thank Mike for all the help, support, tips and parts on this project, which I started without even a screw from an eMaxx. Nearly every single part was supplied from Mike (except the pletti and the schulze), Thanks a lot!!! Please excuse my English... I am from germany. Here are the Pics from my truck now, I guess It was a good idea to make some photos before I go for the testrun... Hopefully this maxx will to come through the first test run without any damages. <b>I guess what you see needs no description. What you can`t see:</b> - 8 Spyder diffs - complete Alloy tranny gears - Strobe slipper - UE servo saver I like the look of the Hummer Body (for MGT, Genesis...) because it fits for my opinion perfect for the wheelbase for the extended Maxx (Gun-Metal Grey with white Flames and silver Outlines). http://www.designag.com/maxx/IMG_2035.jpg http://www.designag.com/maxx/IMG_2043.jpg http://www.designag.com/maxx/IMG_2094.jpg http://www.designag.com/maxx/IMG_2092.jpg http://www.designag.com/maxx/IMG_2096.jpg http://www.designag.com/maxx/IMG_2099.jpg http://www.designag.com/maxx/IMG_2070.jpg http://www.designag.com/maxx/IMG_2109.jpg http://www.designag.com/maxx/IMG_2119.jpg |

<b>I like the "clean" look with no wires that are hanging over the transmission from the rear to the front.</b>
I just screwed two pushrod-ends to the chassis. You need to cut a notch in the round part (the joint) where usually the screw goes through, so you can easily push the wires in or out, even when the pushrods are screwed to the chassis (think the notch is useful when you have to replace the wire for some reason). There is even way enough gap to the screws from the tranny case (without touching the wires when you screw them in and out). http://www.designag.com/maxx/IMG_2134.jpg http://www.designag.com/maxx/IMG_2136.jpg http://www.designag.com/maxx/IMG_2250.jpg http://www.designag.com/maxx/IMG_2239.jpg |

<b>I placed the schulze not under the Pletti because the heat
goes in this position straight up to the pletti and both pletti and schulze gets too hot.</b> In this position I have a lot of space between the pletti and the schulz, so this stuff can "breath"... + I can mount a fan straight to the cooling fins of the schulze + I have a lot of space on the right side to mount the BEC + I have a much better low center of gravity, the only thing to get the max perfect balanced is to use on the left side 4 more batteries than on the right side (under the pletti) So my cell pack is left 10 and on the right side 6 ( I used 5,5 mm High Amp. Goldplugs... good for till 150 Ampere) http://www.designag.com/maxx/IMG_2149.jpg http://www.designag.com/maxx/IMG_2185.jpg http://www.designag.com/maxx/IMG_2128.jpg http://www.designag.com/maxx/IMG_2222.jpg http://www.designag.com/maxx/IMG_2201.jpg http://www.designag.com/maxx/IMG_2247.jpg http://www.designag.com/maxx/IMG_2255.jpg |

For the wheelie bar, I used steel road ends which I polished (I can mount different size rods to adjust the length), slot
car alloy rims and a heavy duty shock which I adjust in length and limited in travel with the white washers which are usually come with every shock (just placed a couple over the shock shaft inside the shock).. now I guess It will work... but I will see http://www.designag.com/maxx/IMG_2129.jpg http://www.designag.com/maxx/IMG_2144.jpg http://www.designag.com/maxx/IMG_2260.jpg http://www.designag.com/maxx/IMG_2262.jpg Wish me luck for the first testrun.... |
wow~! thats 1 nice truck., hope you have fun for the first run!
|
awesome awesome awesome truck, but only 1 problem...integy bulkheads
|
id get FLM bulks, im getting em :)
|
i see a couple of very costly problems you will have...
The schulze 18.97 is made for 18 cells. Most people burn them out on 16, running them on 20 cells i a given that you'll burn that esc out. (unless this is a show truck) The aluminum body mounts should be replaced with plastic. Plastic absorbs impact, unlike the aluminum which will just transfer the stress into your shock towers. I'd rather bend a 5 buck plastic body post than break a 20 dollar body post, or 50 dollar shock tower. (unless this is a show truck) you should replace the aluminum bumper mounts with plastic. The aluminum bumper mounts bends screws and breaks bulkheads, aluminum or plastic. Also, since your esc is turned sidways, the heat still travels up. And since your heat sink is to the side, it will become usless, you will be experiencing some overheat there. very nice truck you got! Just keep what i said in mind when you bash. love that wheelie bar! |
hes running 10 cells on one side and 6 on the other side. look closely. and yes replace those bumpers and bodymounts with plastic.
|
yup plastic will do, so hes running 16 cells? cool
|
i liek it a lot
|
didn't see that. Very unique, must balance out your car very well.

I hate to make my second post here an argumentive one but blah Thats simply untrue. Hot air rises as it becomes less dense, heat through solid objects is largely unchanged by its rotation, the effect of having it sideways is minimal at worst. That is an extremly nice truck and does look awsome, does look a bit like a shelf queen but nothing wrong with that:) |
Great looking G-Maxx. I really like it.
The wheelie bar looks sweet tho I would of used two shocks to give it better balance on it when it rides on it. If you intend on using the Integy aluminum bumper, I suggest you run it with only one set of screws on the bottom so when it does hit, it will most likely swing back the bumper instead of bending and breaking the screws. I had a few incidents where I bent and broke the screws on top when it hit. I still use the aluminum ones but I might decide on using the plastic ones later. About the bulkheads, I use the 7075 GA ones which is a little heavy but I like em because even with these crashes, the screws bend and break but the bulkheads stay. Actually I have no problems running the schulze under the pletty. I also actually have a fan mounted right under it above the driveshaft, which most people haven't noticed yet. I need to get a new fan to replace it tho. Let us know how the test run goes! |
I like the wheelie bar.
What is the part list to make one? |
Nice truck Andy!
Sehr Schon! I think that the wheeliebar uses a few FG or Conrad parts. Supertruck! What cells are you using? Hopf or BK, because of the plugs, i would say BK? One tip; Keep an eye on these pugs, Schulze has got a hang for telling people this >>> LOOSE CONTACT!!!!!!! you need to replace the plugs now and then. Those BK plugs can eat dust, due to their open design, especially the way you are using them. (open air system.. ;) ) Your truck looks AWESOME!!! really nice! (i like it with the body of, i love a nude truck.. ) |
Hi,
Yes the Batteries and the plugs are from BK, I was at Schulzes Office to show them my setup (Schulze is located about 20 Minutes away from my Hometown) and they see no problem at all, just recommended me an additional set of Capacitors, which I will build in at the weekend. Thanks a lot for the reviews, I take it serious and decided to make some changes, but I like that alloy stuff a lot so I decided to keep it with some changes. I found a very easy solution for the bumper and the body post problem (even with the integy alloy parts) … Pics soon… Here are some Pics from the first testrun... This thing is awesome... The Performance is unbelievable Everything went fine the Pletti, the Schulze and the Batteries are not even hot (after 2 complete Battery Packs). The wheelie bar works although perfect and survived some heavy somersaults. No broken Parts at all... The only thing is I have to remove the first gear from the tranny and the shifting servo... The first gear is really useless. http://www.designag.com/maxx/1.jpg http://www.designag.com/maxx/2.jpg Me... checking the temperature.... http://www.designag.com/maxx/3.jpg http://www.designag.com/maxx/4.jpg http://www.designag.com/maxx/5.jpg |
Firts of all: NICE MAXX !!
Coole Sache, Junge! Weiter so The first run already on wet stuff !? Ja, I also hate to wait for the weather to get better :) Where did you get the BL combo?? |
VERY nice truck...those rims look great, but i'm sure they cost a lot....is the gmaxx chassis polished?......i have the first generation gmaxx chassis and it's more of a brushed finish.....and please don't forget to supply us with the part #'s so we can make the wheelie bar..thanks
|
Thats one sweet ride bro....... one of the nicest trucks Ive seen....
|
Very nice
Did you paint the body yourself or did your order it that way? And yes a parts list would be nice. Nicely done! |
I'm interested in the wheelie bar as well thanks.
I have an aluminum maxx also but only got a few pretty pictures before I got the truck all Dirty. Now my little stuff is breaking. I really like the hummer body on your truck because the stance is perfect and makes the truck still look like an rc. |
O.k. I've been trying to make a wheelie bar all night. I'm getting tired maybe if I go to sleep i'll wake up with an idea.
|
Good luck, i hope somday maybe George will come out with a production wheelie bar, that would be sweet.
|
Well. I kinda Got it finished. I'm just working on mounting it correctly. It seems to work well. Just not very sturdy.
|
Wheelie Bar
Since I am going to change my whole screws in stainless steel torx at the next weekend,
I have to disassemble the wheelie bar as well. I will post the pics from the parts. Yes, I painted the Body by myself, this was very easy. Just print the desired design on a stickfoil (use for example protective foil that is used to wrap books). First Step: Print the sheet twice. Cut the Flames on the outside of the black line, stick them on the body and paint the Body in the desired color (my Body is Gun Metal Grey) Second Step: Remove the Flame-Foil from the Body. Cut the Flames on the inside of the Black line and stick the Flames again in the Body, now you can paint the outlines in the desired color. Remove the Flame-Foil and paint the Flammes in the desired color. http://www.designag.com/maxx/f650-flammen-links.jpg |
Does the grill come painted or are those decals?
|
Grill
I painted the grill with chrome spray, the lights, flashers etc are decals.
|
andy check your pms
|
Wheelie bar sucks
I hate to say that, but my wheelie bar construction sucks...
After some heay wheelies and some heavier accidents... check the pics... At least no other things are broken.... http://www.designag.com/maxx/001.jpg http://www.designag.com/maxx/002.jpg |
Where did you get the Turnbuckles that go from the Wheel axle to the bulkheads?
|
I kinda thought in the back of my head that you would break it because I knew the BigMaxximum would do it.
It looked good and sturdy but not sturdy enough hehe. How do you like your BigMaxximum anyhow? |
Mines similar and I've tossed my truck around a few times and yet to hurt anything. Trial and error. My wheelie bar is still far from being good lol.
But I give you 100% style points!! |
I wouldn't say the design sucks, Andy. Perhaps it just needs a slight revision. :)
|
And if you revise it, please include my idea of making a cross brace on the lower two shafts that hold the wheels, making it rigid sideways.
When you tip over, and you start rolling on 4 wheels (someone with a monstertruck knows what i mean.. ;) ) one sideimpact on the wheelie bar will instant destroy it. Perhaps the flex that was in it, did caused binding on the shaft inside the shock, resulting in what happened. A shock doesn't bent when it is pushed in straight. (or the oil, that was used in it ws to thick) |
You said it was a UE servo saver?
What parts are you using for the front and rear turnbuckles, front skid plate and body posts? |
I still think it's a great idea. Maybe a shorter shock (revo?), and a slightly different design would do the trick.
Yeah, how do you like the Pletty? |
You surely need a crossbrace on the lower two arms, to prevent the shock from the stress it has to stand in the current design.
|
Axles
Since I bend one axle an at least 3 pillow balls (titanium ones) I decided to go for the 8mm axles and the steel pillow balls.
I hope this stuff will last longer.... http://www.designag.com/maxx/0099.jpg http://www.designag.com/maxx/0088.jpg |
