Great Planes Ammo for Rustler/ E-Firestorm
While waiting MMM, I was thinking that I buy Traxxas Rustler or HPI´s new E-Firestorm. I have already Mamba Max controller and I was wondering whitch motor to go with and then I saw these: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...o+36&search=Go
I think that price is quite awesome? These are somekind of clearance items? So I want to know is any of these good choise for Rusty/E-Firestorm with MM and 3s Lipo? Maybe Ammo 36-56-2600kv or 36-50-3300kv. |
Well they all have 5mm shafts, so I don't know what you're going to do for pinions. Also the ones you suggested are a tad longer than a typical 540 motor, not a bad thing though. Anyway, the shaft size is the biggest problem.
I might pick up one or 2 of these motors, that price is so low..... |
Yep, these have been marked down for a while... not sure exactly why yet. It's a chance to grab a cheap motor. They are a little different size than the typical S,L,XL but I see no reason why they won't be just as good as a Feigao etc. Probably just another rebadge, lol.
I wonder how big this Feigao is.... |
I'm thinking of trying one of those large ones. Seems like its a XXL of sorts. Its a few MM longer than the Feigao XL's.
|
great prices..... which ones are you talkin' about squee?...
|
The one thats 80-something mm long. Its a little longer than a Feigao XL.

Those motors was just an idea, but I think that I´ll buy E-Firestorm and get motor that can use with stock pinions. Don´t know yet. |
The 36-56-2600 has about the same performance as 9L but with a better efficiency!
The down sides being minor....the shaft size as Matt said....just drill some pinions out to suit... And these have cooling holes that need to be sealed up to stop dirt getting in.. |
let us know how the motor works for you. but i would recommend the rustler by far over the e firestorm. i own the firestorm (nitro) and it is a good car but there are better 1/10 scale stadiums out there. my brother owns a rustler and it is very reliable and very durable. so reliable in fact that i am going to buy one so that i always have something that runs will all my other stuff is not working.

They are priced right and look pretty tempting. |
48p 5mm shaft gears... http://www.megamotorusa.com/Shopping...cat=Gear+Parts
Picked this up somewhere on the forum and got it on to the favorits list. Has anyone tried one of these yet??? I would like to have a few KV motors for different apps, so these would fit the budget but are they any good? Need experienced guys to pick a few up and let the rest of us know. |

There it is.. I see it squee...
I'm sure that motor would work awesome... I wonder what's the rpm limit on them.. I think it's only something like 30K rpm? |

If you go MAxamps (which is what I would go with for bang for the buck), those are hyperion. However, not sure about the Neuenergy...
|
I ordered a 20 tooth 32 pitch pinion from Mike for the 5mm shaft. Then I got this 36-56-2600kv motor in from Tower. I'm going to try it in an E maxx. I'll let yall know how it works out.

I gave the ammo 1800 kv (36/56/1800 )motor a try in my 2wd emaxx on 5s and it got very hot very quickly. It seems to be less effecient than the feigao motor of the same size/spec (15l). Hope that you have better success than I did.
Hold on! Just checked tower and the motor is now selling for $35!!!!!!!!!! I bought mine about 3 months ago for $80. At $35 it is a smoking deal, just gear down and enjoy the savings, slowly! |

What gearing were you using? I was planning on going 20/76 with this one on 4S Lipo. Think that will work good? |

Definately using a 66 t spur, possibly a 14-16t pinion, not sure. Most of my combos are geared for 40mph though, and I try to keep the motor rpm around 35k. Hope this helps. I will have the LHS order me a few of these motors, can't beat the price! |
Has there been any other testing done with the Ammo motors? I'm hoping to try a 36/56/2600 or 36/50/3300 on 3s with a MamabaMax in my CRT.5.
Right now I'm using a Novak GTB with a 6.5 (5900 kv) on 2s. I don't get any cogging or heat (really), but I'd like more punch for jumps out of corners. |

Man that Christmas guy is aways getting in my way. Let us know how it works out.
|
for that cheap you might try 2 of them out in the maxx
|
Neuenergy lipos are top notch. Prices are very good too... only a few more dollars than a similar capacity maxamps lipo.
|
Yeah, i would go Neuenergy too.
|
I happen to like my maxamps a lot. But then, never tried the Neuenergy either.
|
Ok, I got my batteries and I mounted Ammo 36/56/2600 in my sons Rusty, but it is so wet here in Finland that we couldn't drive it outdoors. What I have tried it indoors, it works ok. I have to seal end of the motor before we go out with it. I have only 20t pinion and stock spur so it's not too fast for my 3,5 year old son with 3s 8000 mAh Maxamps Lipo. Now we only have to wait for minus celsius degrees, then my son gets permission to punish his first RC car. :whip: He have been practising well with my BL:s, Minizilla, MLST and Tamtech the Frog so he should be ok with Rusty, at least I get something to fix if not. :yipi:
|
I received an Ammo 36/56/2600 for Christmas that will also be going into my Rustler. Battery will be 4s2p A123, and I'll be running a 46t MGT spur gear with the Revo slipper clutch parts (not the Jato ones), and a 20t pinion. Top speed should be about 55mph.
|
Just bought the 36/50/2300 to go into the Academy SBV2 Pro buggy. I'm going the other way (slowing down) to make it more track friendly. I'll be running it on 2S,3S, or 4S depending on the track. I should be able to gear from 26-45mph top end with this setup, and I've still got my 5700KV if I want the insane speeds again.
Soon as you guy's have some run time with your Ammo motors throw up some feedback please. Edit: I'm going to turn down the shaft on mine to stay with the 3.2mm/1/8" pinion gears I have. I'll post up a note on how it goes... |
OK, update time... WAY happy with the motor. Runs plenty strong in the low end and has no heating issues in my buggy. For those not familiar with the SBV2 from Academy, it runs a tight body with an under carrage cover (like a body for the bottom of the buggy) so air flow is at an absolute minimum. I do have a fan setup to cool the motor but I ran the buggy without for the firts pack, MM-3S lipo, after a full run as hard as I could go the motor temped out at 137' a big improvement over the cc5700KV that got over 150' with the fan.
The mamba max runs this motor with no cogging what so ever and I can make it crawl nice and smooth. Run time was over 30 minutes on 5000mah. Can't wait to try this setup with different voltages on the track, just wish I could find 4S batteries for free hehehe. |
I think the 36-56 Ammo gets hotter than the L-sized feigaos cause it's actually a bit shorter than the gao. I'd like to try the big Ammo, though...
|
My experience with the 36-56-2600 has been great so far, as well. I haven't gone more than maybe 5mins of running it, but geared for ~55mph in my Rustler on 4s2p A123, the motor was at maybe 120deg., and the MM wasn't really warm (even with the BEC enabled on 4s A123). I'm looking forward to completing the truck and bashing it hard.
|
Ok, we did the first test run with my sons Rusty. We had MM esc, Ammo 36-56-2600 motor, Maxamps 11,1V 8000 mAh Lipo, stock spur and 20t pinion. I had to seal end of the motor because of those huge holes in it. After about 15 minutes driving, the motor was a little warmer than my hand, esc did't heat at all. At the time of test run, it was 0 celsius degrees so I have no idea how the motor performs in summer. We'll see that in 5 months. F***ing winter. :whip:
There were no cogging or any other problems, so I was very happy with the car. The speed is quite ok to me. Maybe I'll have to try the Ammo 36-50-3300 motor too, but I think that 2600 kv motor may be better option with 3s Li-Po? |
I think the 2600kv is a little low for the 3S, but I run the 2300 with 3S in my RC and like that it's not pushing anything hard at all. I like to overbuild and underuse it makes things reliable :) The 3300kv would be good on 3S also though as it put's the RPM's closer to the 35K mark. I'm not sure how much more heat it would make for the extra speed though?
|
How are these motor working out for those of you that got one?
I'm needing a motor for the rustler on a 2s lipo until I get the cms7700 back. If the 35000 rule applies here I would need something in the 4700kv range. Out of the list it looks like the 36-50-3300 might be it though. Are the 40s and 30s too small? I'm trying to figure this out so if I am close let me know. If I'm way off let me know. Any feedback would help actually. |
I bought a 36-50-3300 for my HPI NMT, but it has ended up in my E-maxx for the moment.
Performance is good in the maxx on a 5s2p A123,13/68 gears(3905 tranny). About mid 30's for top speed, wheelies up to about 10-15mph. With a novak HV heat sink it was running 120f after about an 8 min run. Without the heat sink I was hitting 170-180 in about 6-7 min. On a 15t pinion it was up in the 40mph range, lifting the front end into the 20mph range. I havent ran the 15t since I put the heat sink on but it was up close to 200f after a 9 min run. I seized the front bearing after about a dozen runs, but for the price($35) I'm very pleased with the motor so far. Gee, Medusa has a 36-50-4800. I have a 36-50-3300 Medusa on the way and an Eagle tree micro logger ready to go. I hope to have some good graphs of the Ammo Vs. the Medusa this weekend.. |
these motors are comparable to feigaos. i know a guy who ran a smaller version of this and a S feigao and said he liked the ammo mroe due to the better efficiancy. this was in a heli but still... and yeah the 36-56-2600 is almost identical performance to a 9l. you probably could hardly tell the difference between them...
|
I found a 15l feigao to be better than the 36/56/1800kv motor on 5s. It got hot quickly, faster than the feigao did. I ran a few packs thru it and then sent it back. Both were geared for the same top speed, and used in my lightweight 2wd emaxx. I may have got a lemon though...
