Upgrade/fix Rustler or buy CRT .5?
 
Got a new LMT 1920/10 on 4S for my rustler. Brutally brutally fast. But, the rusty has been my BL beater for a few years and needs lots of rear-end work (basically replace everything) to get it back up to where it upto the power and drives nicely. See the thread here for the FLM tranny decisions.

Plus, I've been driving/part-time racing my Revo for a while, and drving the rusty again makes it feel very sloppy. Plus 4wd rocks.

Question is, should I bother upgrading the rusty up to LMT stds, or just go with a CRT .5. I really like what I see of the truck, a 4wd 1/10 would be awesome, and the handling should be much, much better. The cost of the Rusty upgrades is looking like $150 w/o going crazy, but I can get Mike's conv kit for that (and request the CRT a nice Xmas gift ;) )

I want it to be mostly a basher, but if I did a few races w/ the CRT that would be cool as well. How tuff is the truck looking? As tough as a rusty (the king tank of basher RCs.)

I've sold my rustlers including my FLM - they just don't take the power well or bash great.

I preferred the pede for bashing and now have the crt .5 with an extended OFNA chassis - 4wd does rock and as you get faster / torquey motors you need it IMO.

+1 for crt .5

Go CRT.5 - its the real deal. You might break a few more parts, but you can't beat the fun of a 4wd 3 diff setup.

I am a huge fan of the HB lightning stadium 10. It does not have a center diff, but does have a slipper. Plus it is about 1/2 the price of a std crt.5, and about 1/4 of the price when you add the extend chassis and 2.2 truck wheels and tires. i will say that the LS10 has very strong diffs and more real estate on the chassis than most other 10th scale trucks. Plus it has a plastic mod 1 52 tooth spur that is next to indestructable. Only upgrades that I have done is some cvd front driveshafts and a custom motor mount. And a set of gladiator tires. The truck runs std associated truck rear rims, and any 2.2 truck tire will fit on it. Plus it is all metric fasteners. Looks just like a scaled down 1/8 LSP. I had a crt.5 and sold it to arct1k, I liked the ls10 that much!

I back up Lincpimp the LS10 is the king of 1/10th 4wd bashing. I enjoy mine more everyday. plus they are dirt cheap compared to a crt.5 which is what i orignally wanted to build.

i really like crt.5 but the ls10 is cheaper in price. 1/8th scale would be the toughest but the price would set you back quite a bit. i say just checkout the ls10 an if you don't like what you see then go for the crt.5.

Hmm, the LS10 sounds like a very tuff truck, but the LHS carries .5 parts, and I was looking for something a little racier. Actually the new MMGT 3.0 looks very cool, but a bit bigger than I wanted. Might be a pain to convert to, looks tight.

I think the LS10 is just as tough as an 1/8th scale you should look at the truck in person, the suspenion components arent very scaled down it seems casue they are much thicker than any other 1/10th scale truck ive ever seen. the whole truck is built very tough.

the LS10 is a pretty good race truck an i know that towwerhobbies caries hot bodies so parts shouldn't be a problem. i also like the rustler my friend got the new bl rustler a man is it fast. but i do agre four wheel drive is much better i was going to get a crt.5 an convert it to electric. but no one that i knew of did conversions for that truck so i got an 8ight T. then i got the finedsign conversion kit but didn't like there kit. then i found this site an got mikes conversion for the 8ight T. thanks to this site i know have an 1/8th scale that will blow the body off an nitro. but to get back on track i don't think you will be disaponted with eighter the crt.5 or the LS10. but i do think this site makes it posable to convert any nitro car to good ol electric power.

The handling is amazing on the CRT. The center diff makes it driveable with big power. Worth the extra $ imo.

I think I have decided on the CRT. The LS10 looks very beefy, and I like the idea of the slipper, but the CRT looks a bit more like I'm looking for, plus not having to order parts is awesome. Nice to be able to go to LHS to get a part for a quick fix.

The price doesn't seem that bad unless I'm missing something. Is still be the SL10 sports for >$300, and I don't want to bother selling the nitro crap off. Mike's conversion kit is a bit up there, but for all it contains it seems a good deal.

ilpufxit, what chassis and batt do you have mounted on there? I have a lipo that is 44mm x135mm I hoping fits. May have to rethink this if not.

Battery mount, got real lucky!!
 
I made the battery mount out of a piece of plexiglass, bent and screwed to the chassis. I just got back from an indoor track where I broke the mount. I was extremely lucky when the spur gear chewed on the battery leads and sprayed sparks but no lipo fire, phew!!:whistle: Didn't even cook the esc, wow.

Now I'm going to make something a lot stronger. Maybe some heavier Lexan will do it. It was a stress crack across the mounting holes.

The CRT is a pretty heavy car, especially with a large lipo pack. When it crashes, it crashes hard. Nothing stock broke though, just my crappy mount.

BTW, the battery is a Neu 5000mah3s

Fin - It will fit no problem - I'm have an emaxx battery tray on its side 45 * 145 with no problems.. Maxamps 5000 3s... I screw in bottom to the chassis and top to a plate off of the centre diff..

He has the stock chassis, so thats why it looks more crammed in there:lol::party: Mikes chassis is long (I took a peek at my xmas present's:whistle:)

But im all for the .5, I love everyones conversion here, and cant wait for mine:mdr::na:

Question is now, what type of pinion does it use, mod1 or 32p?

Mod 1 and you will need the hardened ones that mike carries.
