How hard is it to build a lipo pack from individual cells?
I have made many nimh packs over the years. I can get some individual lipo cells for a lot less than a pre-made pack. Are they hard to wire up? I will just be making 2s packs.

Its easy. I actually think its easier than the old sub-c packs that I used to make. Especially if you get the copper tabbed cells that are available now days. very easy to solder. the only problem is a mistake is more costly and dangerous. If you accidentally short a cell or the pack while wring it up you will probably ruin the cell or cells that shorted. even if they don't puff up right away they wont last as long after that.
Just be careful, think before you actually touch connectors together and keep any tabs or uninsulated wire ends that you are not working on at that moment covered with a quick wrap of electrical tape for safty, and you should be fine. |
As jhautx said!
If you get cells with al tabs be very careful with them as they break easily. You also need zinc solder and the appropriate paste flux to make the solder stick properly. You can get that from cheapbatterypacks.com. Just have to be careful and patient, and make sure that the solder joints are good! Not too difficult! |
where can you buy the slotted boards that the tabs solder to. I have 2 3s packs with a bad cell, and would like to make 1 4s. They seem easy enough to put together if you have the board.
