GS racing SUT CE conversion
4 Attachment(s)
I have the GS racing SUT CE sitting here ready to go silent. I removed the brakes and all the nitro stuff. i have my motor mount templates drawn out, it will be a front and rear supported cradle mount using one of Mike's XL size heatsink clamps (like i did in my ls10), so far i have bought or ordered the following from fellow members or from the RCM store;
-5s 5000mah flightpower lipo -10xl bk wanderer motor -tmaxx reciver box - hitec 5645 ditigal servo -XL rcm heatsink -mike's battery tray kit for the flightpower - another cc bec -ofna molded inserts -13,14,and 15 tooth pinions this weekend i will pick up some tires and wheels since i kinda got jipped on the sut ce coming withOUT bowties, i havent decided on wether to go with crime fighters, or bowties yet. I plan on running the mamba monster max controller as soon as they get the first batches problems fixed and shipped back out. thursday i will have the day off and will be going back to the college for the day and will make my motor mount after i get done helping the instuctor with our PSI tug they bought and finally got running. after i get the motor mount done ill just be waiting on everything being shipped, and i guess ill still be waiting on the MMM also, hopefully they get these fixed quick and a bunch more shipped out. any suggestions on a body???, no crowdpleazers, i dont really wanna run the stocker since is was a #'d special edtion truck so i was thinking of keeping it and the keychain and jsut putting them up for keeps. |

notice the 5mm drag link, cnc front and rear braces, all 4 toe blocks are machined, the 4mm towers, full cvds, all ballbearing steering (no bushings anywhere), front and rear swaybars, and of course in this picture its hard to miss the hardanodized and milled out special edition 7075 chassis. (and a feature you cant see in the spiral cut ring and pinions on the diffs)
this was definetly the truck to have back in early 05 when it was released. hopefully with some decent driving and the 5s setup ill be able to put it on top of the local tracks truggy class. |

well i got to looking tonight while i was tearing my ls10 down for cleaning and new diff cups, and i noticed the motor mount was awefully close to my dimensions i drew up for the one im gonna build tomorrow at college and well what do ya know its a perfect match.... it would bolt right up to the bulkhead with no mods. so now instead of using dimensions i have a template to go off of, just gotta put the motor on the opposite side when i build the new one tomorrow.
just realized this thing is gonna be loud with the metal to metal gears, i may see if i can take the 54 tooth composite spur of an ls10 and mate it up to the center diff, i can do it for sure but itll come down to width clearance of the wider plastic gear. i cant just eyeball it and know if it would work but ill check into more tomorrow |
If it can use a std diff cup, like hpi kyosho and ofna, then you can buy a mugen plate and the ofna 51t plastic spur. I can't remeber the part number for the mugen plate, but it is at work so I will get it tomorrow. The plate bolts on like a std steel spur, and the ofna plastic spur mounts to it.

Nice, will look sweet once completed, keep us updated. What size spur does it have standard?
|
has a 54 tooth the clearance problem would occur between the spur and the rear bulk they are very close witht the skinny metal gear and im not sure if the wider plastic gear would fit. Well i guess everything on my order from mike was instock except for the xl heat sink which he refunded my paypal for i wish i had his number so i could get ahold of him before he shipped my package so he could send an an L heatsink if if he has those instock atleast.

Nice, but is it just me or are there some kind of hub extenders? And somehow the arms look short... kinda remember those GS SUTs came like this, right?
|
yes it uses hub exteneders and buggy arms, i did disassemble the extenders the other day to see how they were built because they have zero slack in anydirection which is odd for a hub extension cause they usually have a little tiny bit of play no matter what, and i learned im not tkaing these off unless i have too they are a PITA and fit extremely tight, i guess the wheel bearings will wear out a little faster due to the extra leverage on them but i doubt ill have any problems out of the extenders.
besides i could always yank the wheel extenders off, throw some buggy tires on there and the wing and mounts from a strom and id have a 1/8 scale buggy with a 13.75 inch wheelbase lol thatd be one good handling buggy. |

here is the front part of the motor mount and the esc mount, the back part of the motor mount istn pictured because it will bolt to mike heatsink clamp when ever i can get one. (motor mount is made out of .100 7075 t6, while the esc mount is .050 6061 t4)
the esc mount plat has a flat part 2x3" and should be big enough to hold the mamba monster and a CC bec and the on off switch. btw all this bolted to existing holes inthe chassis, and so will mikes battery tray, so its been alot easier then drilling and taping a bunch of holes like i did on the Ls10 what do yall think? |

little up date,
i recieved the 5s flightpower pack from tallyram and the hitec servo from jnev today, i also painted the esc and motor mounts black to match mikes battery tray and black XL heatsink itll be using. so hopefully itll be a pretty clean looking install with it all done to match. the tmaxx reciver box (from blrevo) and my order from mike should be here this week also and after that itll just be waiting on the revised MMM to get started shipping |

finished it up today,
got mikes battery tray mounted, the flightpower fits PERFECT, i dremeled out a small channel where its next to the spur and its as close to the middle as possible. |
Looks great! What material did you use on the piece coming off of the center diff?
Looking forward to some more FMX ramp action with your rc's. |

here is the cradle motor mount i changed my desigin so that the rc-monster heatsink / cradle sits all the way down on the chassis, its also clamped and supported in the rear and i still have to paint the rear support black to match everything else.
 very solid also im glad the 10xl came in black to go along with everything else i was dreading having a purple motor stick out like a sorethumb, guess i got lucky or is that a thank you mike? |

hahaha you wont get to see this baby go off the ramp, the LS10 is gearing up for a record attempt jump but thats another subject, im building this truck to RACE and spank some nitro ass.
as for the motor mount read above a few post and youll find it Here she is all finished up, as is with the big honkin MT tires, and no esc im at 9.1 pounds, is that heavy or light? or normal for a 5s setup? im geared 14/54 and once i drop the extra weight of the mt treads for some LPRs or komodo LPs ill have it geard for about 37ish with a 6% loss. you can also see the tmaxx reciver box in the photo (thanks bl-revo) i think it turned out good and clean now just gotta paint that back half of the motor mount to match and get an ESC. plans with the low gearing is for 25 min runtimes and cooler esc, hopefully itll be under 9 pounds rtr with the MUCH lighter tires and the esc installed, oh and i gotta put my wing mounts and wing on off the storm buggy when they come in. well howd i do for my first "nice" build ? |
Nice, but you should not use the motor as chassis brace.
Your chassis will flex, and with the motor like that, you' re asking for trouble. Daf |
