what works better for ballooning tires
 

im currently using gorilla duct tape and i just do one layer and overlap by one inch. its working ok but one tire has balled up - reason its not recommended. it can ball up or come loose and bunched up with the liner. Duct tape can make a mess inside of a tire! now my tires is wobbly. the other 3 is fine but i think it maybe a matter of time before those give in also.
others are suggesting 3M strapping tape. any of you guys try this or what kind of tape do you guys use? i have some new tires on the way , and seeing if i should stick to my gorilla duct or try something new...thanks

I like 100mph tape. The stuff they use to do quick jobs on race cars. I got it a long time ago at a webstore. Do a search on yahoo and you'll see them.

I always used duct tape twice around keep it centered good and end it where it starts to prevent any balancing issues. It is much easier to do if you turn your tire inside out on the rim and then apply it. You can get it nice and centered and keep it tight too.

ive always read to overlap the tape by one inch. i dont know why it tells us to, im thinking it helps from the tape from peeling off, but if its gonna peel off, then wouldnt the 1 inch overlap tape peel off too? i think your idea is better, i may stop with the overlapping. but i do not know what you mean by turning your tire inside out on the rim and then apply it. You can get it nice and centered and keep it tight too??? when i tried this, the tire is sooo big the rim is moving all over the place. did you mean have the foam inside the inside out tire?

jeremy1976 has a good point. why should we overlap the ends? do you guys overlap or stop where the tape end? and how many times do you guys wrap the tire...once or twice? and whats the best way to put on the tape so that its most centered on the tire to prevent the least amount of unbalance?

I give it a lap and a half.

I've never had any problems yet.

Another thing that will help is to wipe the tire with DNA (denatured alcohol). Most things made from rubber are made in molds and generally speaking they use silicone as a release agent (keeps the rubber from sticking to the mold after it cures). This silicone will also prevent anything else from sticking to it as well.

nm with those questions. imma overlap because the force will make the tire a bit bigger causing the tape to stretch. and i think going around once should be good enough.

Wait a second... You went through the trouble of asking us for help and now your gonna continue doing it your own way? Which, may I remind you, already failed once...??? :slap:

Take the tire by itself. Turn it inside-out. Wrap the duct tape around it twice keeping it as centered as possible and DO NOT OVERLAP. Press the sides of the tape down FIRMLY. Make the tire right-side out and assemble normally.

This method works. Flawlessly. Or, it has for me and my Rustler for quite some time now. I'm running an Align 600XL with a Sentilon HV ESC and 6s FP LiPos. The power goes directly to my taped Proline Speed Hawg tires. It's geared for 85 (eight-five) MpH. No blowouts since I taped them 6 months ago. Not even out of balance. If you're gonna ask for advice be prepared to take it.

nah the reason why i said that was because someone pm me with a article on how to tape tires. so i didnt wanna feel like a nag askng so many questions. but yea the only thing different than what i did, was in the article it used 3m strapping tape.
well, this time im gonna try the strapping tape but still dunno if i should do one or two layers...right now, two sounds like the better option.

can you use plain ole' duct tape?

i just let the tires fly. No tape needed.

get tire by it self and flip inside out and clean with alcohol
take your preferred tape (i use normal duct tape, the tire is shred before the tape comes loose) and wrap it twice around the what was the inside but now outside of the tire.
Do 2 layers not overlapping the ends. (2 layers support the tire more so the tape wont stretch)
Press all tape down firmly
flip tire to normal state and install normally.

ic ic. since we re on this subject maybe you guys can help me on this part of the tire process. before gluing i always mount the tire onto the truck to see if it spins smooth, if it does not, ill take readjust the tire foam and mount again and ill do this a few times untill the tire spin smooth. its pretty much luck of the draw as i install the foam the exact same way each every time, but i guess its more or less centered at times. but anyways, when my tire is balanced perfectly..time to glue. and after gluing, i mount the tire onto truck, and its unbalanced again...wobbly..what i mean by wobbly is picture a red line straight in the middle of your tire going all around your tire, when i give it throttle the red line would spin squiggly instead of spinning straight.
why does it do this..annoys the heck out of me.
and i even do the electric tape trick where i wrap tape around the tires so that its constantly giving pressure while i glue...sorta like the rubberband trick.
do you think the pressure might have cuased the foam to shift...but the other 3 tires i glued is fine with the same method...something i dont know?
