Dace Adapters and 8mm UE CVD's

Today I got the wheels from Dafni, he did a fantastic glue job for me. Thank you Dafni.

First I have mounted the dace on the wheels, this works pefectly. Than I tried to mount the complete wheels on the truck. This is impossible.

The reason is very simple. I am using the 8mm UE CVD's. So the CVD has a 5mm winding with a 10mm screw nut. So the diameter outside of a 10mm wrench is 14.2 mm, but the diameter of the hole from the dace adapter is 12.8mm. For this reason I can't tighten the nut.

Guys I had so much misfortune with this supermaxx, this is unbelievable. Does somebody of you have an idea how I can solve this problem.

I went to a special screw shop and was asking for a 5mm winding nut with 9mm outside diameter. But this is not available, because the dealer told me such a nut will not hold.

How does this work, for me it seems impossible.

The way I did it was buy a turned down 10mm socket from one of the machine shop guys on the UE forum. He did it for me for like 6 bucks or so. (I can't remeber his name, I'm sorry, but do a search for turned down 10mm socket and you should find it)

If you know someone with a metal lathe they can do it fairly easily I think. Otherwise it's a long dremel session I'm afraid.

Gusti, I have a metal lathe! I can probably make this turned down nut driver for you. I will get one done for you.

Ooh Gusti, you really have one problem after the other on this truck! I hope your chain of misfortune ends soon!

This sounds to me as though the only good solution woud be a modified nut driver, such as Mike suggested.
Sorry for not being able to provide a quick solution. Maybe if you can get a hold of the nut with some small pliers, you can turn the axle/adapter. But this is not an elegant way. You want to tight the nut down firm, after all.

And about the glue job, you're welcome. I hope they hold up a while!

Are you going to start marketing these mike? May be a good seller. I used a grinder for mine. just have to make sure to work all theway around not just one sided.

so why do ue sell the 8mm cvd's with the dace adapters if they dont work together?

They do work together. Just need the right socket for the nut. I not sure who sells a shallow socket for it.

oh i get it now, so the problem has nothing to do with the 8mm cvd's? just the adapters being to big and you cant get a socket to tighten them up?

It is not really the adapters. The hole for the aluminum rims are the same size as the dace adapters. I had to make a socket for them as well. Just so happens the holes are the same size.

it's not the nut that's need to be smaller, its the tool that needs to be smaller..

Does the thread fit thru the hole in the dace adaptors?

A lathe, this was the idea. A friend of mine got one. His was not in his shop today, for this reason I have made it myself.
You must believe me, this was an experience. I did this the last time more than 20 years ago.

That is nice looking. You got the idea of the socket to. I had to do the whole socket to fit my wheels. You have to show us a pic later on in the project. What kind of tires you going to run? I like big tires.

I got this 40 series max masher from Mike. They are really huge!

Danfi did the gluejob for me and they are perfect.
