Bent hinge pins?
I've got problem with bending titanium hinge pins. I'm using supermaxx titanium pins, but the front bottom hinge pins keep on bending at the back (near the steering bellcrank). I know why they're bending, its because when i turn at high speed the lower A arm transmits a lot of force to the bottom pin, and it bends.
What i want to know is are there any stronger pins (hardened steel, lunsford titanium etc...) and where can I get them from? cheers ps. if you want a pic to see what I am talking about, just ask. |
What suspensiona and bulks are you using? A pic would be nice.

I'm using stock suspension, and greatassemblyrc bulks. I just took this pic, you can get an idea of what is going on. You can see the the 2 lower arms are angling in slightly by the steering assembly.

Try steel hingepin's. They are stronger than titanium.
Else upgrade your suspension to aluminum. Alum arm's won't worp like plastic one's do at tight corner's. |
Surely nylon will flex more than aluminium, hence taking the pressure off the hinge pins. Anyway, I don't feel upgrading to aluminium suspension is a worthwhile upgrade unless its racerx......and unfortunately i cant afford that yet.

Are your arms properly shimmed?

Don't think so. Are you refering to the plastic spacers that alter the caster?

Yes, those are the shims I am speaking of. Some use the plastic spacers Others work with a few 3mm washer/shims. Their placement is used to adjust caster. Your arms ought not move forward or back on the hinge pin. |
I have had good luck with the integy racer x suspension. I have not broke or bent nothing yet. It is a lot cheaper than the ue. I think by upgrading it may fix you problem.

At the moment I have other things on my truck that really need changing. I need a new body, wheels and tires, and could do with some new shocks. Maybe integy type 3 will come after that. :D

Here is another tip that you may be able to implement. If you can get a hingepin that is long enough, try putting a thin hinge pin brace on the back side(in front of the steering bellcranks at the rear of the front bulkhead). I was able to use the stock maxx steel skidplate brace(part that comes with the plastic skids) on one truck that was having similar problems. Even a thin piece of steel like this helps strengthen the hingepins behind the bulks. Even is you have to remove some material from the bulks to make it work(in front, for example), this may be a cheap trick that stops your troubles.

Where did you get that CF skidplate? And how is it holding up so far?

i believe that is a xtreme racing low cg chassis. not positive but pretty sure. i think they eliminate the skids. most people run the rpm wear plates.
