need help with my RC8T

i am trying to setup mech. brakes on my RCM RC8t and the motor can rubs up against the brake discs before the spur and pinion can engage. is there a solution to this that i am not seeing?

take a dremel to the brake disk?

wallot 12.24.2008 05:35 PM

if you use 50T spur you can get 54t one which will give you 2mm more and if that is not enough get larger pinion.

i thought of doing that but i would have to dremel quite a bit to make it work and already there is only 3/16" of the disc that touches the pads. if i dremeled it i would lose alot, if not all, of my stopping power.

i also considered changing to larger gears. the gearing on there is 16/50 and i would have to use probably a 17/54 or even 18/54 to get it to work and that is not gearing that i want to use.

Yes the brake spacer...

sweet! thanks Arctik. i will just make my own. why didnt i think of that?

BL_RV0 12.24.2008 08:10 PM

That will not work because the rear disc is your problem- not the front which is what that cover will fix.

 Nevermind I am an idiot.

no, you are right. if the spacer is even almost the same size as the motor can, which it looks like it is, it still wont work because then the spacer will just hit the brake disc.

Thats not what the brake spacer Mike makes looks like, I have one, its like a 3/4 moon cut out to miss the brake. its not the full spacer in the pic

this is the one. i drilled and pressed in two bearings when i was using it. using the motor brakes now.

Arct1k 12.24.2008 11:25 PM

The brake version is cut out to provide clearance for the discs - It works... Trust mike...

jayjay283 12.24.2008 11:27 PM

Yeah thats pretty much what Mikes brake spacer looks like

You could also dremel the motor fins if there is any room to do so.
