Brushless Losi 8T 2.0
Ok, so I have pretty much posted this on every forum I visit but after a week of work and a ton of planning, well I am about as giddy as a school girl. Iit is almost done except for painting the body.
http://i728.photobucket.com/albums/w..._n/8t_1355.jpg So, the mount, although it looks big, weighs a bit less than the "normal" one that everyone uses which flips the diff around the other way and raises it with the spacer. Took me 2 days to mill and I am not quite happy with it. I could have lowered the motor .100" and still had good clearence for the chassis to flex and the pinion to clear. I will probably make a new one later but I used the last of my 1/2" plate. The battery is a "quick change" thing (I havent finished the latch though so no pic of that yet) so the battery stays with the battery tray, it just slides on and locks into place on the chassis. It is elevated slightly off the chassis so as not to inhibit the chassis from flexing. Total weight is 9.05 lbs and I could trim a bit of fat still from the battery tray and the mount if I want to. Should be about max 9 flat after body and paint and the fat reduction. Weight is dead even Left to Right and is about .07 lbs heavier towards the rear. Took it to the track Sunday to play on the snow (snow is frozen solid so you can walk on it). The thing is amazing. It could be geared a bit higher (running 16/50) possibly but it is planted, jumps perfectly and cornering, well, i was on snow, who knows. It cornered great in the snow. Unfortunately the track is buried in 10" of frozen snow, I have alot of digging to do to get to try it on some dirt. |
How does your truggy weigh less than my buggy? :( ha. My buggy is 9.20 pounds on the track.
Make sure to completely dry off and blow off your car after you run it in the snow or you will definitely start developing rust on the driveshafts, outdrives turnbuckles, steel screws and other steel parts. It's definitely worth the extra few minutes it takes. I've learned the hard way :( racing on wet tracks and not cleaning the car till the next race day leaves you with plenty of surface rust. Do I see a temp. sensor on the motor? Is that Spektrum? More pics! I want an 8T 2.0 man. |
Yup, got a Dx3s for xmas (Really love my mother in law). I thought 9.05 lbs was heavy. I weight it with our shipping scales at work, maybe they arent as accurate as I thought??? Battery is only a 4s 4800mah zippy r. I am lucky in that I have compressed air in my home workshop so a few seconds and it is all dry and ready to go. As for pics, that was my first attempt at "photobucket" and took me an hour to do. Not a big deal until you factor in that my wife doesnt really know about the truck and I was trying to do the pics while she was home. I have the smart diffs coming on Friday so will post up some more details then.

:surprised: the wife doesn't know? I hope you were really charming on valentines day. Might soften the blow for you when she finds out  hehe.
Well it looks awesome. I run a 4s 5000 zippy-h in my 8ight 1.0 with a neu 1512 and I'm sitting at 9.2lbs track-ready. You did good with the photobucket. Good size and everything. Post up some more shots when you get a chance to sneak away from the wife. ha. |
Very cool man, that is gonna be an awesome rig. I
I would love to get my hands on one of those new 2.0's. |
Looks great Eric. Looks like a great job on the battery tray. Hard to wait, to actually see it drive in person, more snow leads to leave before I venture to the track.

Ok, more pics.
This is the motor mount, you can see how much is shaved off. http://i728.photobucket.com/albums/w..._n/8t_1361.jpg http://i728.photobucket.com/albums/w..._n/8t_1362.jpg Next 2 are the batter mount setup. The battery stays with the tray, the tray slides onto those "T" slots from the rear and locks in with a spring loaded pin from the top (not made yet). http://i728.photobucket.com/albums/w..._n/8t_1358.jpg http://i728.photobucket.com/albums/w..._n/8t_1358.jpg Bottom side of the monster mount. I got lazy but I could trim alot of excess material off of this thing and loose a couple grams. http://i728.photobucket.com/albums/w..._n/8t_1360.jpg Last but not least, since the body is still being painted, this is the sticker I am putting on it. http://i728.photobucket.com/albums/w...emodedcopy.jpg |
Could this tray be the answer to quick change battery swap.
