Truggy combos?
I have an MBX6-T with the RCM brushless conversion, and have started out with the RX8/2000 kv. combo on 5s lipo with a 20t pinion.
This showed out to be a way too fast setup, so I switched to 16t pinion. But what are you guys running, I am hinking KV, how many lipocells an wht size pinion. I want to make it durable at a medium size track. You can see the truggy here: http://www.rcgalleri.dk/html/gal_vis...397&ipc=109536 |
5S - 1700kv 46/16 gearing
for 2000kv on 5S go for 13t pinion |
Thanks a lot.

What kind of temps are you guys running? I have a 8T 2.0 using the Tekin RX8 1700 combo and I am running 16/45. I am getting around 175 degrees on the motor. I have tried a 17 tooth also and it was about the same. This is on a large track after 10-15 minutes. I think this is too hot and might have to back to my Mamba Monster 2200 combo since it was way faster and cooler. Any advice would be appreciated.

Havenīt actually measured the temps, just realised the setup would be crazy for the track.
But I run the MMM on my Savage, and it runs way hotter than the Tekin combo, so I donīt think heat would be an issue. |
I'm actually setup to run the same setup as Ellwood. 1700kv truggy with 16/46 gearing on 5S 4200mah Hyperions. Haven't run it yet but should be about right. Might drop to a 15T pinion depending.
Should be in the ball park. |
I'm running a RX8/2000Kv T8 motor on my ST RR with 46/15 gearing.

George, how are you finding the power of the 2000kv setup? I think I read your running 5S with this setup?
Trying to round out a solid race setup that will be efficient without overpowering the truck. Hoping the 1700kv setup on 5S will be enough. I do find the sensored option very nice for a race setup from a smoothness on part throttle or under braking. |
Theoritically, a CC/neu 2200kV should be a little cooler than the Tekin 2000kV because it can handle theoritically more power. But the 16/45 gearing is too high with 5S 2000kV... you should try 13/45 maybe. The advantage of tekin truggy motor compared to standard CC/neu 2200kV are their low kV with high voltage.

Itbvolks, I only ran it twie for speed passes and so far I like it. I had to change the cd oil to 20 and increase punch control because it will wheelie the truggy or even flip it if I blip the throttle. I'm hoping to run it on the track this weekend.
Nuz, I wish I can use 45/13 as my setup. The spur and pinion won't even mesh with each other using the RCM kyosho mount. |
Then maybe change the spur, what vehicle do you have ? Kyosho ST ? There is some 50 or 52 T spur .
Its better to have a big spur because you can use a big pinion for same ratio. And big pinion give mechanical energy to the spur with less loses than small pinions, the noise is also well reduced (motor temp too !!!!!) ;) and if the shimming is correct, the pinion will last a human life ^^ |
I like the 46/15 gearing so I don't plan in installing a bigger spur. I have Kyosho's metal and plastic spurs ranging from 44-52T :yes:.

George, So with the 2000kv setup on 5s, you have enough power to flip the truck running 15/46? How's the temps been? I still think my tekin 1700kv setup on 5s should have enough power/torque to handle a ~9.5lb truck without too much issue. Really cool conversion though! Truck looks great! |

Btw, it's a Kyosho ST RR. |
Itbvolks, I have the 1700 combo on 5S using 16/45. I ran pack after pack today at the track and never went above 145. The track temp was about 70. My heat issues were due to a bad solder joint and possibly a rear diff needing reshimmed.
