Castle Creations 2400kv 4-pole with Sidewinder SCT? NO.
Why: I am cheap, the Max Pro costs a lot and you can get the Sidewinder SCT for as little as $40 these days. I tried to setup my Slash 4x4 with Castle 1415 2400kv 4-pole motor with a Sidewinder SCT ESC. I had read on other forums from Castle Employees that the newer SCT/SV2 sidewinders were close to the original Mamba Max in power handling. I thought with a few small tricks, I could get it to run the 1415 reliably. Here are the mods:
Result: Top speed was 33.8mph by GPS. Heat was not an issue, however hesitation was a HUGE issue. It was inconsistent as well, sometimes chugging for 10-15 feet before catching and going. I tried to adjust the punch control and timing to different settings with no success. Bottom line, don't try it. I have used the SCT in my CRT.5 with a Tacon 2-pole 3660 2700kv motor and it works fine. I thought I could get it to work with the Castle motor. Guess not. |
Mamba Max will run on 4s the new SW2/SCT won't. But that's my Road Slash 4x4 setup. 2400kv on 4s bec MM.

The sidewinder is a tiny esc, the 1415 2400kv motor is simply too much- it's large enough to push an 1/8 MT pretty well but the esc is only suitable for 1/10 SCTs which are usually 2wd or very light weight, it should only be used with the 1410 motor ( it is the same esc as the sidewinder sv2, just rebadged when sold with the 1410 sct motor ).
There is also the fact the esc is also only rated for 2s with the 1410 motor in 1/8 SCT's, it should only be used with 3s with the smaller 1406 motors, in very lightweight vehicles; adding a larger motor and plumbing it into a slash 4x4 is asking for trouble... |
