Got a free 12volt power supply

I was given this ac-dc converter (intelipower 9100, 1000watt/60amp/13.6 volt output) out of a rv. Is this a good one to use with my icharger 306b? Would it allow me to charge at the full 30 amps the charger is capable of? (6 5000mah packs). I ask because I've heard you really need 24 volts to charge at the full 30 amps. My current 600watt generic computer power supply starts emiting a funny smell when I try to charge at anything over 15 amps:oops:

thanks!

Good deal on that PS!

Most of the really high power chargers do need the full 24v to get their max power out. Actually, they are usually current-limited at their input, typically to ~30-40A. So, to get the max output, you need 24v.

So how high do you think I'll be able to go with that power supply? What will happen if I try to charge at 30 amps? Does the charger shutdown, does something overheat and blow a fuse? Would rather find out from you then be surprised by what happens:oh:

Usually, the charger simply limits the output current to maintain its internally-preset max current value. At least that's how the bigger Hyperions do it. Any charger that blows a fuse or overheats is a POS and shouldn't be used.
