G-Maxx Carbon Fiber Ground Up Build
4 Attachment(s)
Well I have been reading and learning from a lot of the members of this forum so I thought I would share the results. This is a ground up build and I picked a lot of parts based on what I read in the Forum. Thanks!
However, I also picked parts just because I liked them or because it was a "easier" so don't be too critical. :026: Here is a list of parts: Chassis / General Gorillamaxx G2 X-Brace Carbon Fiber Chassis Gorillamaxx Aluminum Motor Mount Gorillamaxx Race Skip Plates RPM Skid Plates RPM Black Rear Step Bumper RPM Black Front Bumper RPM Shock Tower and Body Mounts RPM Bulkhead Brace Hardcore Racing Front and Rear Bulkheads Traxxas Bumper Mounts HexHeads AP Screws Traxxas Receiver Box Axial Diablo Body Transmission Gorillamaxx G1 Single Speed Conversion Traxxas Output Shaft Traxxas Input Shaft Traxxas Output Gear 31T Traxas Gear Box Halves and Idler Shaft RC Monster Hardened Steel Idler Gear Robinson Racing Slipper Kit 70T Robinson Racing Pinion 12T Traxxas Slipper Tension Spring Differentials Integy Gear Box Collar Silver Integy Rear Gear Box Silver (Used 2 Rears - Long Story) Traxxas Differential Gear Set Maximizer Diff Cup Kit with Mod Robinson Gear Engine, Driveline and Suspension Novak HV Brushless System 4.5 Acer Racing Ceramic Nitride Bearing Kit RPM A-Arms Black RPM Axle Carriers w/Bearings Proline Steering Kit and Servo Saver Lunsford Racing Titanium Turnbuckle 1 3/4" For Steering Traxxas Rod Ends Short w/ Hollow Balls Lunsford Racing Titanium Combo Kit (TB and Pins) MIP CVD Center Drive MIP Shiny CVD Kit Traxxas Big Bore Shocks Traxxas Aluminum Caps Pivot Ball Traxxas Aluminum Pivot Balls Traxxas Wheel Hub and Axle Pins Axial 8-Spoke Oversize Wheel Pro-Line 40 Series Crime Fighter Tires Electronics Futuba 3PM FM w/ Receiver Hitec HSC 5998 Servo Dynamite 1/2 Aluminum Servo Arm Blue DYN2560 HPI Cap Head Screw for Servo |

For those more experienced, you will notice a mistake here. [Hint: I used more threadlock than nececcsary along the way on this build.]
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w36/HamMaxx/1.jpg So here you will see front and read bumper mounts. However, I subsequently slightly modifed a front bumper mount and used it on the rear to get the body to fit closer to the bumper. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w36/HamMaxx/2.jpg Pro-line steering kit worked out real well. And the Hitec HSC 5998 really turns the front much better than my stock one. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w36/HamMaxx/3.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w36/HamMaxx/4.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w36/HamMaxx/6.jpg To get it neatly mounted and to use the GMAXX engine mount, I drilled holes and mounted the ESC just a little to the side. Then shortened the power wires to the motor. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w36/HamMaxx/7.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w36/HamMaxx/8.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w36/HamMaxx/10.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w36/HamMaxx/11.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w36/HamMaxx/9.jpg I have tested it in the basement with some battery packs as I am waiting on some 7-cell side-by-side batteries. Boy is it smoother than my stock EMaxx. Going to change battery connections to Powerpoles and then I am done. Now this may sound crazy, but I really enjoyed the build even though it took about 3 months all together...even crazier I'll probably list it on eBay so I can build something else. Again, THANKS to everyone that I learned from. |
It really looks great. Don't feel wierd that you like building. I do too, as do most member here... which is why they enjoy doing conversions. :027:

Acer ceramics?
I hope I did not get you into this....:) |
Nice ride!
please replace the stock tamiya connectors! |
Hey, instead of selling it or parting it out, you should think how to make it an even greater rig( and you will surely enjoy the build up).

Acer Ceramics
No telling if it was you or not regarding the Acer bearings. I would not use the kit again on a ground up build like this since I had too many extra bearings left over since the Pro-line steering kit and RPM axle carriers came with bearings. Just one of those rookie mistakes. But I will be able to use most of the extra bearings in my stock EMaxx when needed.

Tamiya connectors
Yea going to replace with some Powerpoles I have, but just did not get it done before taking pictures. Already had problems on my other cars with Tamiya so want to replace all at once and that is a small project by itself.

very nice good luck on ebay!
|
you are right it took me around 3 months for my gorilla maxx e revo conversion.
|
Truck looks great. I had a question were did you buy your Lunsford Racing Titanium Turnbuckle 1 3/4 steering rod. And is it the perfect length. I want to buy that exact setup.
Thanks |

Welcome, Pain. Try to check out with Mike, he never fails anyone. Also, if you did not find it at his hand, you can directly buy from Lunsford.
