emaxx gearing?

I have a hacker b50 10xl and a mm in the mail and I want to run 12-14 cells and I was wondering if anyone had a basic idea for gearing for it. it weighs about a 1/2-3/4 lb over stock. I want to have an Idea to be close and so I can go from there. I just don't want to blow up my mm right away. also the battery (6 or 7 cell packs) must be wired in parallel right? thanks

Use the speed calculator in briang's signiture. Subtitute the b50 10xl for a wanderer 10xl they are very close to each other. That should get you pretty close.

Anyway, here it is: http://www.scriptasylum.com/rc_speed.html

You could easily run 14 cells, and probably want to, not 12 cells.

What kind of speed are you thinking? IMO, I would gear it 22/51, for up to 40mph top speed.

If a hacker 10XL has a KV close to a BL 10XL, I'd got with more like 16 cells or 5s lipo. That way you won't have to gear up as much. On 12 cells or 4s lipo, I'd say a 7xl or 8xl.

I agree, I would rather run a couple extra cells than gearing it up. Do you know what the limit for ratio is for the 10XL Brian?

But I would also just as likely run a higher Kv motor like 8 or 9XL on 14 cells.

I thought NiMh could not handle a 7XL? and barely a 8XL...

There isn't a gearing limit per se. It comes down to weight, drivetrain/rolling resistances, and battery power.

I was using the 10XL on 14 cells geared 14/40 on my ~10lb Revo with stock tranny locked into wide-ratio second gear. Motor temps were a little warm, but not too bad. I had sized the motor for 5s lipo but never got around to getting them since I had three 14-cell packs already. 5s would have let me run better gearing (probably run std or narrow ratio gearset in the tranny) while maintaining decent track speed (~35mph) and cooler motor.

And that is true; NiMH cells may have a hard time keeping up with the 7XL effectively, but again depends on weight. If it takes X power to move Y lbs, it only stands to reason it would take less power to run less weight. Still, NiMH works, the voltage just dips more than a properly sized lipo pack.

I would like to be running mid-low 30's in 2nd and I want a system that wont put to much pressure on the mm. i have various spurs between 51-70 but only one pinion which is a 17. which would most likely run the system cool? I am a basher and I am shooting for more torq a little more speed and quite a bit more run time than stock.

That speed should be fairly easy to get since the stock Titans aren't too far away from that. I would find the ideal gearing using the "solver" calculator. Then, you can go up or down from there depending on motor temps.
