I am figuring out how everything would work out if I made my emaxx brushless. Besides the transmission, as far as electronics how does this sound?

Will those two work together, and be fine in an emaxx? Will it fit to the stock emaxx? Also, what does it mean when it says the motor comes with the 5.5mm connector and I need to solder something?

First of all, welcome to the forums.

How many cells are you running or what kind of battery will you be using? nimh, lipo, etc... Also, the 9l motor may run hot in an e-maxx, the 9xl or 8xl motor however, should do great with the Mamba Max esc. I would also recommend you buy a UBEC to go with this all.

I vote for the 9XL and go with 4S lipo.

As for the UBEC, does the Mamba Max ESC really try to put all of that voltage into the RX? I make my own battery packs so I could certainly make my own rx pack rather than spending $37.

And for my setup, what speeds and torque can I expect? (Also, runtime)

Oh yeah, one more thing. What tooth pinion should I use with my setup on an E-Maxx? I currently have the stock spur (66 tooth, 32pitch).

I don't have an e-maxx, so I am not sure about gearing. But, you will also want the rc-monster heatsink with the 9xl, just to ensure cool temps. Since you are only 12 cells though, you may want an 8xl (it will run hotter however), but will be little faster than the 9xl. For run times, they will be longer with the 9xl, but like i said, won't be as fast.

Ultimately, you would want to go lipo, so that you can have long run times no matter what. Truerc has the best bang for the buck lipo packs. You may want to check them out.

As for lipo, it is too expensive to start. I have the equipment but would like to try out NIMH and deal with that and then see if I am ready to step up.

What exactly does the UBEC do, and how do you set it up?

The system (MM/Feigao) is a good bang for the buck system, but the Feigao motors are what they are, and that is an inexpensive (dare I say cheap) motor that gets the job done with some drawbacks.

The major drawback is that they are inefficient. What this means to you is that they run hot. The hotter the motor the hotter it will run. I run trucks for the most part and have tried the 7XL, 8XL, and 9XL so far.

The 7XL was a wicked performer, but I could only run it for about 10 minutes before it got to over 200*F. I went with the 8XL and I could run a bit longer before the motor overheated. I am now running the 9XL and the performance is more than acceptable. Many who still run nitro would even call it fast. It's plenty fast enough for bashing and running on the track. I can run mine with my custom heatsink for about 30 minutes before it gets over 200*F. From what I've seen with these Feigaos that I've run is that they all over heat, it's just a matter of how long it takes.

The only way to avoid this is to go with a more efficient motor. The only real options that we have here in the states are either the Lehner or Neu.

The Lehner is a two pole motor and runs well with the MM (or any controller), but is kind of hard to get right now; but Mike is working on it.

The Neu is a four pole motor and will run with the MM, and people have done so with varying levels of success. Some say it runs fine and others (like myself) are having problems with cogging. If you want to run a Neu, I'd suggest either a Quark Monster Pro or Compro controller. These do well with four pole motors.

The downside to the Lehners and Neus is the price. They run double and triple the price of the Feigaos, but are worth it in my opinion.

If you want to go the budget route, go with the MM and 9XL. With the proper cooling precautions, you'll have a good time with them. I know that I do.

the ubec allows extra voltage to be sucked out of the batteries and to the receiver to power the servos. It is basically a battery pack except for it never needs to be charged, gets voltage from regular batteries, is smaller, and needs to be soldered to the ESC. Also to use a battery pack or ubec the red wire on the servo wire needs to be cut off. Here are some wiring diagrams on this website. for gearing on the 8XL i would run no bigger than a 18t but personally i would run a 16t to keep temps down. it could definatly be run on 18t and would probably work good but temps would definatly be higher. As for runtime depending on the type of battery(mah level) some guys here get an average of 15-20 minutes on a decent set of batteries on a stock maxx with these options (decent battery is like ib 3800 or 3300s). Hope i helped.

Ok guys, here is what I ended up ordering:

-Mamba Max ESC
-Fiegao/Nemesis 8XL Motor
-RC-Monster Black Heatsink, XL Size
-5mm bore Mod 1 15T Pinion Gear (Revo)
-5mm bore 32P 18T Pinion Gear (E-Maxx)
-UBEC
-5.5mm connectors

This will all go in a Revo that I am in the process of converting, and I went ahead and ordered a 32P pinion just incase I wanna pop the BL System in the E-Maxx, that way I dont have to pay $10 for shipping later on down the road.

Now all I have to do is get this revo ready and make mounts for everything, motor, batteries, ESC, RX, and maybe UBEC.

I agree with Angel, The 7XL is fast and nasty, but only for a few minutes. I never run an 8XL but have run a 9XL and with stock gearing its a little faster than the titans. You can gear it up a few teeth and get to the 30's with 12 cells quite easy. I have switched to a 1515/2.5d and the difference is night and day. Same KV roughly but the power makes it feel like its not trying, I have moved the 9xl to my Gmaxx. I have given some thoughts to putting the 7XL in a pan car or touring car with 6s and see how it would run

I'd go with the 9XL. There isn't a whole lot of difference in performance and the 9XL will run cooler. It also runs well on 14 cells.
