MGM 16018 vs Quark 125B w/ Neu 1512/2.5D

After my Quark died (second one) I was tired sending it for repairs so I got mgm16018. I was little bit scared how it will work with my Neu, but after first run all I could say was WOW.

Quark did have problems with low speed runs and there was little but of cogging, just from standstil but it was there. It just needed to get motor moving bit faster. Then it worked smoothly.

But MGM is smooth from standstill, it's incredible how smooth it is, I can crawl next to Novak 4.5 :) No problems with braking. programming through card is simple (as well through pc), it recognized correctly 4 pole motor.
Only the drag brake is too strong with Neu no matter how its setup, but running without it works well and its probably better on the track. I was able to overheat it after like 10min running on full throttle becasue it was mounted temoralily without any airflow but i will fix this.

My maxx is now 5.5kg (12.1lbs) RTR, running od 5S TrueRC 8Ah LiPo with Dimension engineering ubec

I'm glad to hear th MGM is working for you. You had the Quark on a Silencer heatsink, correct?

I don't understand how ppl can have 12 lb. trucks... what do you have in them? lead weights?

squeeforever 09.23.2007 04:13 PM

His rim and tire combo is a good 2lbs. probably...

wallot 09.23.2007 04:14 PM

yeah i did.

well truck is full of aluminum -
FLM chassis, FLM hybrids, FLM shocktowers, NEw Era Revo knuckles
5S 8Ah lipo wights 2lbs

I have plastic skids, plastic arms so not possible to make truck lighter as FLM stuff made truck indestructible :)

//edit - fixed misspelling :)

'indestructible'

I couldn't stand a heavier truck like that... my Revo 3.3 weights in at a tad over 9 lbs with a 7s A123 pack and 1512 motor, and a Quark with a Silencer epoxied to it. It's fast, can turn fast, awesome handling, and is uber efficient.

u is so close to i :)

well revo is quite light truck compared to maxx.

yeah tires/rims are little bit over 2 lbs but you cant get any really lighter tires/rims

I can save a lot with like 5Ah flightpower pack but no need really

for example friend's LSP is like 11lbs with 5S lipo and all he has are plastic battery trays and small esc mount.

I think a Neu 1515/2.5D would be better for your application

i dont need any more torque. its hard already putting in onto the ground.
motor temps are no problem at all. 1512 is more powerful than xl motors

I have run my Quark for over a year with no issues to it really, that is after I set it up right.
I have no cogging at all, so not sure how you were getting that. But glad you like the MGM. :)

Yeah, Quark and "cogging" don't usually go into the same sentence. Even witha 1512 2d (kv 2600) on 4s, geared 46/16 on my buggy, I could crawl over obstacles without cogging. I wonder if there were issues with that ESC?

Don't forget, the Quark is actually more comparable to the MM (current and voltage wise) and is really meant to be a 1/10 ST ESC, so comparing it to a 160A ESC is not really fair IMO.

neweuser 10.29.2007 10:33 AM

Brain, I agree. Even though the Quark was "rated" for 6s, it runs best on 4s IMO. I think the MM is more comparable to it however as you said Brain.
The MGM is a whole different catagory I would think.

from my experience, the quark(125b) is super smooth, bk(12020) is a little rough, and mgm(22418) is really smooth. so far the mgm is light years ahead of the quark and bk, it actually works correctly when staying within its specs. can't say that with the others i've owned!
