Hi, I'm new here. I'm building an all out race Maxx and its almost done. Of course, it will be brushless, powered by a Feigao 10L and BK 9920. This project has been going on for well over 2 years because of all the new ideas and design changes. The point of this project is to have an extremly light ,fast and agile beast. Because of that goal 80% of the parts on this truck are one-off's, all made and designed by me.
Heres a list of parts 6061 Aluminum chassis (currently being lightened) Machined aluminum center tranny riding between nylon blocks Delrin rear lower arms Turnbuckle upper arms RPM molded hubs all the way around Polished stock pillow balls and hingepins Modded RPM front arms Garolite upper deck/brace system (In the works) Garolite front shock tower 7075 Aluminum rear tower Integy non piggyback shocks Kyosho springs up front, Trinity in the rear Shortened Revo center sliders Modded Maxx sliders at all four corners Stock diffs, ring gears were hardened and tempered Lightened Integy rear bulks Pro-line velocity wheels Traxxas Sporttraxx rubber and foam Pro-line GMC Sierra body Hitec 645MG http://www2.mini-zracer.com/albums/M...y/DSCF0234.jpg http://www2.mini-zracer.com/albums/M...y/DSCF0235.jpg This is an old picture, but the rear was unchanged http://www2.mini-zracer.com/albums/M...y/DSCF0175.jpg It may look heavy, but it weighs in at 8lbs fully loaded with 14 cells and a spare motor. It should be closer to 7 with all the weight I'm taking out of the chassis. |

Impressive number on that weight. Wow. Mike will like it. Hey, I also just thought about hardening some ringgears. In fact, I have 2 ringgears coming my way as we speak, and I have a very special idea for them. DAF |

Yep, they are. But from an metallo-chemical point of view, it's only medium hard.
Altough one can over-do it, and you get brittle stuff. An experiment won't hurt, I guess. Especially when you have the equipment ready at hand. |
heh, that rear turnbucle is very very bent.....dunno if its meant to be like that. Nice work btw, ;)

Yes, the turnbuckles are bent to clear the shocks. Its not hard at all to harden steel. There are a lot of tutorials online. Just remember to anneal the material first and temper it once or twice after to reduce its brittleness. Does anyone know if the Feigao 10L is any bigger in can diameter and length than a stock titan? My tranny mockup has the titan laying down on the chassis. |
Welcome aboard! Nice work on the light weight truck! I am a sucker for the lightweight stuff! The 10L is the same diameter and a tough longer than a titan. Here is a free tip for you: The rear turnbuckle can be mounted in the middle of the upper bulkheads with a spacer. This will allow the to remain unbent. These rear turnbuckles must also be beefy, as they sustain a decent load on the track(they will bend or break without a nice, beefy rod). The rear suspension is very similar to a prtotype G-maxx suspension that never made the cut(due to inability to use cvds). Very nice work on that truck, though. It is begging for a center diff!

Thanks Mike. I'll have to redo the rear turnbuckles. I made them before I milled down the bulkhead, so I had to mount them on the end of the arm mounts.
Do you have a picture of the G Maxx suspension? I made the rear arms over two years ago. |
I can't seem to find the pictures I had of the G-maxx suspension, but I have the parts around somewhere. The suspension worked great, but was not compatible with cvds, due to the changing distance between the diff and wheel throughout the range of the suspension travel.

Old post, I know, but I have a couple comments...
I like how you layed the rear knuckles on their sides and used an upper turnbuckle to adjust camber, and the pillow-balls to adjust toe-in...that is a truly revolutionary idea and is so easy. You would think more people would have thought of it, but you are the first that I know of. You essentially created a plastic version of the Unlimited Engineering Racer-X Rear Suspension! All you need to do now is create a pair of Setback rear arms for the rear suspension and you will be all set! |

Well, my reply was more for everyone else than it was for him, but I worded it in case he actually read it. Anyway, the rear knuckles layed on their sides is really cool! :)
