Novak 4.5 or MM & Fiegao 8XL in G3R w/ (2) 2s2p for 4s
I'm building an E-Revo on the G3R chassis with a single speed E-Maxx tranny. I currently have Maxamps (2) 2s2p 6000's and TrueRc's (2) 2s2p 6400's. So I could connect 2 of then in (series?) for 16.8v which I think is below the newer mm voltage limit. I read somewhere it was around 18v.
I have a Novak HV4.5 setup on my ext flm e-maxx now and like how easy it is to put in. Runs great when it is geared correctly. I have the MM7700's in my Rustly and Pede. So that is my experince with brushless. I have another HV 4.5 (soon as the ESC is returned by Novak) that I was going to use in the G3R. I also have an extra MM ESC (soon as it returned from CC) and thought about getting an Fiegao 7xl or 8xl. I know there are better setups (MGM, Neu, etc) but this is what I am working with. What would be the pros or cons of these two setups in the G3R with 4s4p lipos? Which one would you go with and why? Thanks everyone! |
2s lipo is 7.4v, so 4s is 14.8, not 16.8v (you're thinking of 7 cell nimh packs).
Anyway, if the 4.5 runs fine once its back with you, then I see no real point in spending yet more money on a new motor, esc & ubec really- like you said, you just have to gear the hv4.5 abit more carefully, and it really does run great on 4s, a very fast and quite powerful setup. The 8xl would be even more powerful, but then again it would also be quite hot after a good run- depends on how much torque you really want, since the hv4.5 will propel that Revo to 40mph with no real trouble, especially when its fed good lipos like yours. Thats my opinion anyway. |
Yeah your right, it is 7.4v. I was using what a maxx charge limit goes to. I think all lipos are rated at 4.2v maxx per cell. My 2s2p's come off the charger at 8.32v the way I have it set. So I was using what the Maxx could be for the Lipo setup.
Thanks for the kick in the rear Neil. Don't know what I was thinking. I got other parts I need to get with that money and the 4.5 does work well. I don't want to mess with setting all that up right now either. Just drop the HV in and off it goes. Back on track now..... |
Gee - I'm in the same boat ..I have a 4.5 that I put in a converted lst2 to test the conversion (on 4s4p) and it worked so well that I never pulled it out. Spending my money on other things now!

Its what I do best.... Sometimes its better to spend a bit extra to get a really good system, I must admit, but if you already a working one (sort-of, lol), then run with that- future upgrades are always possible, and there are bound to be alot of brilliant new BL systems & escs appearing in the next 12 months. |
Yeah Steve I'm glad I got the wake up call before clicked the BUY NOW button. I got the 4.5 in my e-maxx and runs great.

Novak will be releasing info on a new 5mm shaft rotor/upgrade kit for the Novak HV motors in the next few weeks.
The beefier shaft should be a big improvement for these motors---especially for use in the new, soon-to-be-released E-MAXXes. It's coming soon!:yes: |

A larger shaft will be harder to break. Depending on how you drive and the amount of chassis/motor mount flexing, you can get some pretty decent lateral forces on the pinion, which could snap if using an 1/8" shaft. A larger rotor allows for larger/stronger magnets. But, if I read NovakTwo's post correctly, the rotor won't get bigger, just the shaft. |

Interesting. Stupid question, but any chance of finding out how much extra torque this new material will produce, compared to the older design rotor? Im still gonna hold out for the new BL system due next summer-ish though....
