Hobby Rule #2... They break. And if you are racing, you better expect to have spares, especially the vulnerable stuff.. In this case, ESC, Servos, Push rods, Pinions, Spurs, drive shafts, etc... Rule #1: Unacceptable. Just because I can afford it doesn't mean I wish to throw all my disposable income at a hobby.
Rule #2: Again; unacceptable. In my experience, if mounted right, the more vulnerable parts are protected. The other more easily attainable stuff are acceptable casualties. I design (perhaps "over-engineer" is a better word) my setups to be built and run with little maintenance and with crashes in mind.
So, instead of throwing money at a problem, I would rather throw my intellect at it. But that's just me.
