It does change very early for a reason. The reason I went with the 2 speed was to reduce some of the currant draw (less heat) being produced when accelerating from low speeds and to hopefully slightly increase runtime.
Not sure what you mean by "180's ? But I intentionally limited the top speed achievable by the car, hence the top speed wouldn't exceed that of a gas powered 1/8th onroad. This way they can't complain that it is too fast to race against them at my club
I would at some stage like to reverse the pinion and spur eg. 20T spur and 48T pinion. That works out to a theoretical top speed of 643.06 km/h (400.33 mph) or drag adjusted 221 km/h 138 mph - 66% loss (Thanks to BrianG's calculator)

That would be a handful!!!
