The voltage ( battery ) you connect to the esc goes through the esc and to the motor- the esc will 'experience' the same voltage as the motor, if that's what you meant. It's not like the esc steals some of the voltage so that the motor only gets a smaller portion of it; the esc is just a tap to control how fast the motor spins- the more voltage you use, the faster the motor will spin at any given throttle input/amount.
