Sidewinder cuts out after a few min. - 09.11.2008, 02:37 PM

Bet your glad it's not another dead MMM thread....

After about 4 min of racing, my sidewinder cuts out, then comes right back on. Can someone help my troubleshoot.

It's a sidewinder on 2s with a CC 5700 motor running a 16t pinion. The car is a zx-5.

I have removed the switch and soldered the power button. I knowit's not the battery. This only happens after a few min, maybe it's getting too hot and thermaling? The motor isn't very hot at all at this point. Haven't tried a temp gun yet.

The 5700 is a big AMP puller - I put it on my Eagletree with the Enerland 25C batteries and was seeing 100amp spike

So you're thinking it's pulling alot of amp deep into the race causing my LVC to trip?

Have you checked the temp on the Sidewinder when it cuts out? Do you have any cooling holes in the body to provide cooling air for the Sidewinder?

I had a 6400 15 true rc battery. The first qualifier it did it at the very end. I ran the next 5 min qualifuer with the same battery, cut out like 2 min in. The final race I had a fresh 6400 15c, made it to 4 min of the 6 min main.

No cooling holes, and I didn't check the sidewinder. I can tell you that the motor wasn't hot.

Well, without knowing the ESC temperature we can't say for sure whether or not it was thermalling.

Does the sidewinder beep like the MM when it thermals?

I thermaled my MM before several times doing speed runs with the 5700 on 3s and it would also beep at me when it did.
