brushless problems - 01.30.2010, 09:49 PM

Hi everyone, ive been having some problems with my brushless setup in my rustler and i dont know where else to ask as i cant figure it out

after rebuilding it the other day the power seems to pulse, it effects the motor, the cooling fan and the steering
i have changed the motor, battery and receiver to try and work out whats causing it which narrows it down to the ESC or the BEC

im running a Mamba Max with an external BEC(dont know the make) i dont have another ESC or BEC to test it
i have tried plugging the MM in without the BEC but it just does nothing, i have no idea why

heres a video(apoligies for rubbish quality) hopefully it shows the problem a bit more

If I were you, I would go make sure I had the latest firmware update for the ESC.

Can you tell more about your setup? What voltage do you have this on?

The fan and the steering power is a result of the External BEC. It sounds like it's "dirty" power. The pulsing is probably coming from there.

You said the internal BEC would do nothing when the external BEC was removed. Hmmmmmm...........we need to get to the bottom of what's wrong with the internal BEC.

Had the red wire been removed or cut from the ESC plug that goes to the receiver?

If the internal BEC has not been disabled, then the internal BEC is dead.

This also means your MM Brain Board is running off the external BEC.

When you run an external BEC, you MUST disable the internal BEC by removing the red wire from the Receiver plug.

Otherwise, you have one BEC fighting against the other, especially when one's output voltage is different than the other.

Check the status of the red receiver wire for the internal BEC.

Let me know.

You need a new ESC.

If the receiver and servos won't run off the ESC's internal BEC. This means it's VERY weak and can't carry the brain board inside the ESC very well.

Sounds like it's almost cogging.
