losi 8ight suggestions - 02.13.2008, 11:05 PM

well im goin to my lhs tomorrow and do a 8ight conversion. and i want some input on wat setup to use.

setup1:
9xl
mgm16018
5s 3700mah
13-14 tooth pinion

setup2:
7xl
mamba max
3s 5000mah
17-18 tooth pinion

these buggy is goin to be for racing only no bashing so i could get the speed i'd need on 3s at the sacrifice of runtime unless i pickup some new batteries. the apache 5s might just be all around better but im not sure so i need some input.

Go 5s it will run much cooler and will be easier on all of the components.

3s 5k batts will not have enough power to run a 7xl in this buggy. Plus it will run hot!

To be honest I'd do a 4S setup with a Mamba Max ESC and a Neu motor.

But of the two choices the 5S would be the better setup.

might try that too tomo but i dont have a 4s lipo so i might pick up two of those 2s 5000mah losi batteries and try them. good job BP-Revo that might be the winning setup plus my car and batteries will match LOL

What kind of batteries?

If you are going with the flightpower 3700 25c pack, you would have 92 amps continuous. At 18.5 volts you have around 1700 watts.

On 3s 5000 25c packs you have 125 amps. At 11.1v you have 1400 watts.

Plus the 9xl on 5s will be at a better max rpm, around 34k.

The 7xl on 3s would be around 26k max rpm, which would require taller gearing, thus causing more load and heat. The 7xl is a good 4s motor, when geared down.

So the 7xl 3s combo will require more power, and the battery will have less ability than your proposed setup. Plus the mm will not like that either.

Your cheapest way out would be a 4s setup with an 8xl. Some trakpower lipos, or a 4900 4s flightpower would be optimal to power that setup. A mm with an external bec would work with that.

5s is a big step up from 4s, much better temps and power, plus less load on the batteries. Amp spikes will be less too.

What size pinion are you running? I just ran my 4s/8xl/mamba max and man, the motor got HOT (200+F even after about 5 minutes of running it).
