183Amps recorded on Rustler with 3s2p A123 - 03.28.2008, 02:48 PM

Using the Eagletree datalogger, I recorded a peak of 183 amps from 3s2p pack in my Rustler dragster running a 380 6L Feigao motor and a mamba max ESC. These cells are bigger monsters then I thought they were. I still need to figure out how to get the data out(layziness on my part). I cleared the logger and then forgot to save the data. Going to do it again if it doesn't rain today.

What was the voltage at that current?

A123 cells are awesome. My 36V pack gave me 172A of enjoyment.

I think the voltage dropped to 6V or something like that. I'm using that 150A rated Eagletree datalogger. Wires were warm after my test.

My 10S pack was at a little over 2V as well when it went above 170A.

The voltage was at 10+ when I started running. Going to measure how much juice my 2lbs camaro sucks.

I had to put the fan back onto the mamba ESC as well. It reached 205F in a hurry and the motor was about 139F after 5 minutes or so. I have to reduce the punch control to reduce the wheelies and amp draw.

In 2p config you could expect even more from A123 cells. I see Amp peaks of 100-120A used as 10s1p (My eagletree v1 is rated for max 100A). So if your ESC and Motor is able to provide/suck 200-240A, your battery pack would provide it for short bursts. At 100A as 1p config voltage could drop to 2V (i see a range from 2 to 2.4V). It really depends on cell temperature and cable length.

From a Power point of view i calculate with a max of 250Watt per A123 cell (110A@2.25V). So 3s2p are able to provide up to 1500 Watt (and maybe a little bit more when you warm them up before driving). There is also a feelable difference in power when they come fresh from the charger as when you drive them say 1 day after you charged them.

I know about the warming up part of the batteries to get more power out of them and that 250watt per cell makes sense as I recorded 1400+ watts. The measurement was taken on freshly charged packs.

Hey do you have the space to make it 3p? That would allow a LOT more voltage under load.

I do have the space for 4p, but all that extra weight might not do me good for dragracing. I rather do 6s2p whenever the MMM gets here.

i see that you like the 380c 6l! You have definately run one harder than I have! My old one was in an emaxx on 3s, and I had it geared for about 55mph!

I had the 6L in the dragster and it was impressive. I put the little hacker in there and it was only pulling 30 amps doing burnouts in my garage.
