need help guys - 01.05.2009, 07:00 PM

I feel like such a tool for not figuring this out on my own, but I'm stuck.

Setup:
LS10
MM with CC bec and this cap http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...=35vcap&cat=21
540c 8xl
cheap nimh stick pack for testing (will accept 4s donations)
JR xs3 and r135

Problem:
It works but not right. Steering works flawlessly. Will respond to forward and reverse inputs but not "fluidly". Sometimes it will remain going forward "on throttle" even when trigger is returned to neutral. I tried 3 different receivers. The trigger on the radio seems to just be a potentiometer, the only thing I can come up with is a dirty pot? I don't have another tx to try so I thought maybe you guys could read this and say, "yeah it's the radio douchebag", or, "it sounds like X you flaming retard". Thanks for reading.

It does sound like a dirty tx pot. Since your steering works, plug your ESC into the steering port of the radio. Of course, "turning" will now activate forwards and reverse, but that should help isolate the problem...

I would recalibrate the ESC to the new "throttle" throw though before running...

do you think squirting a bunch of cleaner/lubricant through the pot would fix it or do I need a new radio?

Hmm. Maybe temporarily. I've never had lasting results from doing that. Usually, if dirt that got in there, not only is it dirty (duh), it also probably scratched up the resistor and you'll still probably get erratic behavior.

So, did running it on the steering channel work?

stuck in bed tonight, can't test. Excellent idea though, using the steering channel. I've had luck cleaning pots in old stereo volume knobs, i guess it's worth a try.

did your radio work on another speed control? I can see a sticky radio being the reason for the v2 failure. Please respond, I hope it's not the esc!

What about contact cleaner? That might be better to use than lube.

all I have on hand is an aerosal electronics cleaner/lubricant. Anyway, you can never have too much lube, better slippery than chafed........

LOL. Very true. As long as the cleaner lube is for electrical things it should be fine.

I have found that steering tends to be a lot less prone to interference or bad signal then the esc. My MM does exactly what you describe when it is about 30m away. The receiver antenna has been broken so the range is crap. It's not a problem most of the time. The MM seems to hold last throttle position momentarily before dropping to failsafe.
