8ight-E questions - 08.02.2009, 10:56 PM

Ok so I am considering getting the 8ight-E but I had some questions.

-What do I have to buy to get the buggy running?

-Where is the cheapest place that ypu have found it and for how much?

-Do I have to use the Losi Li Po batteries?

If any of yall have one and would also like to tell me what you think about it I would appreciate it.

it depends on whether you get the roller (just the rolling chassis) or the RTR package which includes esc motor and i think battery.

ebay by FAR is the cheapest. i got mine new for $349

no, you don't need to use the losi batteries. i use zippy flightmaxx 6S lipos, they are fantastic.

Ok I will probably get the roller of the 2.0 version. Since you said that the motor was not that powerful. I will probably throw in my Hv MAXX 4.5 in there beacuse it has great control and powers my 10+ Pound Emaxx great.

Be sure to pick up 9 and 10 tooth pinion gears for that motor. It likes to rev. Is the shaft 1/8" or 5mm? You'll NEED the 5mm shaft rotor/endbell for everything else except for the the rcm mount, otherwise the shaft will snap do to the excessive bending moment from mod1 gears. The rcm mount sets the motor close enough to the spur gear.

i didn't really like the losi motor mount. it really limits the gearing potential. mikes rcm mount is AWSOME.

it allows for BIG pinions too. :)

Hey I want to jump in on this too, I want to do a conversion from a nitro 2.0 race roller, so whats all I need to get it converted to electric? im deciding betweet losi kit and tekno kit, but also considering your RCM mount method, I've read somewhere someone manage to bent his RCM mount, he posted a picture of it bent but I can't remember where I saw that at.

I have the motor with the bigger shaft so no worries. But what do I do since the HV maxx has 2 Battery intakes but I am only running 1 battery.

this is what i did to convert mine:

http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/show...07&postcount=9

the tekno kit is good if all you're doing is track racing, but their electri-clutches are very gear limited.

Same with the losi motor mount which is why i opted for the rcm mount.

yeah, i saw that bent one too, it was the first one i've ever seen bend and i've seen ALOT of RCM mounts in my day. I've got the rcm mount in all my 8ights and my bashers have taken serious crashes with no mount damage. i think his was an odd fluke.

call novak's customer service. i haven't used a novak since the 80's. you can also post the question in the brushless forum. i'm sure one of those guys knows. I'm pretty sure all you'd need is a y harness connecter, but like i said i'm not sure. if it's got 2 battery connectors, you could always run 2 3S batteries stacked which will have the 2 connectors. i did that before i started buying the 6S.

here's a link to the 3S:

yeah, make sure you have a lipo charger and balancer but if you're using the novak esc, that's about all.

another advantage with the RCM mount like i mentioned before is the fact that you can run huge pinions and 6S packs. here's a video i took today of a couple of speed runs.

I need a longer road because i was having to hit the brakes as it was coming towards passing the camera just as i was getting to full speed. About 50 feet behind me was the end of the road which is about how far it takes to stop going as fast as i was.

http://s247.photobucket.com/albums/g...t=HPIM6235.flv

that's geared 45/24 i believe.

going away from the camera is 1/2 throttle, coming towards the camera is just about full throttle.
