New Kontronik Controller - 03.25.2006, 12:48 PM

I saw this link posted on another forum and thought people here would be interested in at least seeing this controller.
http://www.kontronik.com/Powerjazz2006e.htm

Its page and the "Datasheet" link sure make it sound great.

From everything I've seen of Kontronik it'll be pricey, but 45-cells nimh or 15s lipo, and 120A with 200A max is right in-line with what some of you guys aspire to :003:

I believe that it doesn't run well in cars. Or so says starluckrc.

Its very heavy - 270g. The specs are through the roof though, 45cells is ridiculous. Could run a full scale car with that thing!

That weight isn't something to concern you about with 45 cells or 15S lipo, you can bash a Leopard tank around..

I only just noticed the bit in the description about it not sparking when you plug the batteries in. Really wish that feature was in all controllers!

I wonder how they do the no spark plug. The others spark from charging up the capacitors. Yeah thought and still thinking. ;) I can't say yeah or nah for the fact I have not talked to anyway that has tested them.

That spark is almost certainly the inrush current from the capacitors charging. If the spark really bothers you, connect the grounds together and then use a 10 ohm resistor (~5w) between the power wires. This will make the caps charge slower by reducing the current. Leave it on for about 30 seconds. This time really depends on the total capacitance value, but 30 seconds should be more than enough. This is a common procedure when charging MUCH bigger car audio caps (1,000,000uF or more). The sparks from that big of a cap can leave some pretty bad scorch marks. The ESC caps are much smaller.
