11.17.2008, 06:11 PM
I just got done running a bout a pack and a half through my truggy.. its got a hardened steel spur gear... well lets just say the spur gear won..
This gear is of unknown origin, i doubt it is hardened. but any idea what would cause the gear to be sharpened like this?

I have seen some sprockets in my line of work that look like that but that was after a couple of years of service...IMO its just wear....

Well, two things that I can think of:
1) Not being hardened will eat those things up fast.
2) Tooth shape. Not all Mod1 pinions are the same. If you look at Mike's old pinions, they have a different shape than the ones he has today. The old ones were made to use with a plastic spur and are shaped accordingly for proper mesh. His current pinions, along with being hardened, have a slightly different shape so they work well with both plastic spurs and steel spurs.
