MMM no worky in flux - 03.01.2009, 06:04 PM

I went down today to try to drive the Flux on 4S. Its been sitting for two long lonely weeks down in the dark of my garage, and thought I should give it some love. I loaded in my 2 new PQ 2S packs, turned on the DX3, flipped the switch, heard the initial "on" song it plays, but not the remaining "beep" "beep" "beep". Flipped the trigger FWD - nothing, Reverse - nothing. Turned everything off, and tried it again - same results. I checked steering, and it was fine. The yellow and green lights are on, but flickering somewhat (seem to recall this is normal). I double checked the plug into the reciever, but its good.
Two weeks ago, I reprogrammed the unit, and adjusted all the parameters - but it operated correctly when I shut it down.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like the bec died... You can try recalibrating it, and check to make sure that you have not altered the throttle channel expo, epa or any other settings to do with the throttle channel. Zero everything just to make sure and recalibrate it...

Is your LVC still set to 3s Lipo packs?

I reset the MMM to factory (Castle, not HPI) defaults, and voila! it works again. Now I just need to figure out which setting I gave it that it didnt like. I know I changed the motor timing to one of the lowest settings, and I changed the brake power to somewhere around 70%. I likely revised the punch control also, but I doubt if I gave it much.

LVC was on Auto Lipo, and is again.

I don't think it was anything that you changed that (directly) caused it to malfunction like that, where it wouldn't drive AT ALL. It was probably "only" a firmware glitch...

I kinda hope it wasn't a glitch, 'cause that may be an indicator of things to come. I'd prefer to run it, not sit and wait for parts.

That's what I was thinking....but mother nature had different ideas. By the time I got it going, the rain had started. Forecast has us with rain for the next week straight.....Hopefully I can get it out at some point, 'cause I really need to be able to tell Linc which set of batteries I want to get from him....

It sounds like to me it wasn't seeing Neutral on the throttle.

It's much better to play with one adjustment at a time if you can. LOL

The only setting I can think of that would do what was described is setting the neutral range too small. If the ESC sees too much F or R on arming, it won't function.

I did narrow the dead band down a touch. Must've been at the minimum allowable already.
I wonder if reducing the deadband on the DX3 will have the same effect?

Depends on the radio. If there is too much "drift" in the throttle potentiometer, setting a value too low would make it too sensitive.

I have had trouble getting it to arm when setting the deadband smaller on the esc (also using DX3). I just leave the default esc deadband setting and have had no problems since.

I will likely leave it alone. I didn't have much of a reason to adjust it - its just that the "dial" was there, and I had to turn it......
