Hey there.
As you know I have 9L´s and 9918´s.

What is the common gearing on those EMaxx trannies? With stock sized wheels, and stock spur (66t) ??

Do you guys run stock spurs?

Suggestions would be welcome!

i run the 8L on 12 cells and am going to gear it 14/66 (stock is 18/66) mostly because i need the quick speed in and out of corners on my fairly small track. it will also help with runtime.

Daf, how many cells do you run? I would say a 16 tooth would be a good starting point with the stock spur.

I´m running 14 cells, GP´s only!
Yes, I got 16/66 now, but the motor gets rather hot. What do you suggest? Smaller pinion or bigger spur?
Is there some kind of better aftermarket spur, or do you suggest Traxxas gears?

I would drop a tooth on the pinion and start there. When you say the motor gets hot - do you have a temp gun to measure the temp - hot to some people is not really that hot to others. Running with a 16/66 your running about 32 mph. Also - how hot is the speed controller getting ?

The 9L can handle 14 cells just fine. As HotnCold asked though, what does hot mean? The motor will feel hot to the touch after a run , but it is likely well within its limits. This is for an e-maxx or the e-revo? Also, do you use a heat sink?
The stock spur gears work fine, and kimbrough and robinson make spurs for the tranny as well.

hey bro I'm running a 9L geared 16/70 runs good but after a good thrashing the motor does get warm.lol might look into one of mikes heatsinks soon.

Okay, the 9918 stays below 60°C and the motor gets over 70°C really quick! (measured with temp gun)

Please check my other thread about the dead motor!

Yeah, this is on the Revo. No heatsinks, but a tricky body design, which blows the air nicely on the combo.

70C = around 155F. This is well within the safe operating temperature range of the motor.

Ja, I know, but it get´s ther really quick, and basically I would like to keep the motor juicy for a long time.

Is it more common to tune with the pinion gears opposed to the spur gear? Are most guys sticking with the 66 spur?

spur size is personal preference - and most people tune with pinions - it is much easier and faster....
