Lipos in Parallel - 02.17.2008, 10:18 PM

Hello,

Can you run two lipos in parallel even if one of the packs has a smaller diameter wire? FYI, both packs are exactly the same except for the power lead diameter.

Yes IMO you can.

I run Lipo's in parallel quite often. I don't think the wire size will make that much difference.

One thing I want to add.

Just be sure they are about the same voltage before you hook them together.

If one is a few 10th's of a volt different, then it's ok.

Just don't hook a dead one to a fully charged one.

Check out Brians page here: http://www.scriptasylum.com/rc_speed/_lipo.html

scroll down to the section "Battery Pack Wiring". Then click on "use 2 parallel battery packs"

Yes it will increase runtime by doubling the available mah's of capacity.

Let's say you are running 2 packs parrallel. Each pack is a 10C 4S1P 4000mah Lipo capable of 40 amps continous discharge.

In Parallel, they will supply 4S voltage at 8000mah and be able to deliver 80 amps continous working together.

I hope this helps.
