What motor again? 1521/1Y? on 5s pulled more than 125amps and smoked the Quark or did the drivetrain lock-up or something?

I remember reading another member got some dirt/debris lodged in the spur gear out bashing and it locked the drivetrain at WOT and instantly smoked the ESC…

I think it was the Quark that smoked, right? And you had a Neu 1515/1y I think too. But that thing had some sick power.

That looked just like mine when it too put out a fabulous amount of smoke. When I went to unplug the battery, the wires from the ESC just came out.

Awww man, that's like your 2nd or 3rd controller thats gone up! I feel for ya, I think I just blew out my Hyperion LiPo somehow. I might be making it into a 3 or 2s pack. Speaking of lipos, is that a True RC pack? How do you like it?

I have a 4 cell 5000 True RC pack I picked up for $90 and for the money you can't beat them ... I believe they underrate thier packs...I would buy them before a MaxxAmps pack

Bummer, hate it when RC days end with dead components.

Wat hauling #$$ before it stopped though!!! Can't wait to have an ERevo...

If I could only draw what I see in my head, then afford to build it, and finaly get to play with it...

I love the true RC lipo, it has never gotten above ambient temp. The drivetrain was fine, temps were air 85, batts 86, motor 115, esc fried

The motor is a 1515 1y, and lutach that is exactly what happened. I went to unplug the battery (which is ok) and the wire came right out

I wonder why people don't put an inline fuse between the battery and the esc. Use a fast blow fuse with the esc max amp. Probably need another one for the ESCs maximum continuos amp rating, but make it a delay type so that we can still acomodate the amp spike during acceleration.

I am thinking the Quarks esc fried due to internal heat, I have seen people needing to run external heat sinks and fans if they are running them above a 4s....that isnt very impessive for an esc that is suposed to be able to handle 6s....has anybody tried running an external UBEC and disable the units BEC....since I wasn't present when Dicky T's esc fried I don"t know everything that happened so its only a guess

Since I went to using the CC BEC and 4 cell lipo withe the Fiegao motor the heat to the MM is almost non existent

I had the rc-m heatsink on it, Ubec, and no fans.

rc-m heatsink was mounted to tekno mount, the quark to the heatsink with arctic silver paste, and a 2 zipties around the whole thing to holed the heatsink to the mount.

In previous testing runs prior to filming the esc temp never got above 125. I tested in loose dirt, asphault, grass, and sand. After a 30 minute run in sand was the hottest I had seen it was 125, and that was towards the end. I checked temps every 2 mins during the 1st 6 runs, every 5 mins during the second 6. this was the 7th run total and less than 2 mins in, poof. I'm going to call S&T here in a few mins to send it in for repair\replace.
