help me with my mgm 16018-3 - 06.13.2008, 05:50 PM

hi
i have two cars, an e-revo with tekno that i love and a jammin x1crt. I run both with a mgm compro16018. Now i have some problems, sometimes the esc stops and doesnt obey the comman of my transmitter, but when it happends i can command the steering but the motor doesnt work. One time the esc become beeping all the time. I think that this happends cause the motor is too hot and the esc protect it, but i dont know, im a little worrie about that, anybody can tell me what happend with my esc?
I will try to run it again cause on summer i havent got too much time for this beautyfull hobby and will try to explain myself better, sorry but im from spain and my english is very bad
thanx for all and greetings

The shutdown is the thermal shutdown in the control and means it is over heating. The other part could be part of that or something else.

As far as your English, it is much better than many Americans I know so don't worry.

hi texasSP, you mean that the esc is over heating? cause i touch it and it is a little warm, but the motor burns as hell. The problem is more usually when i run the esc on the truggy, it is a x1crt with a feigao 9l and 4s 5000mah lipo. Maybe the motor over heats cause the stock spur gear is 62 i think, but i changed it to a 46 one from kyosho, cause i have read that plastic spurgears are better for brushless conversions, the pinion is the smallest that i can found on rcmonster store, a 12 teeth mod1 if im not wrong. I know is a brutal jump between 62 and 46 spur gear, but with the 62 steel spur gear the car was very noisy and i was worried about breake the spur.
Here you are a vid of my truggy with 9l feigao, 4s lipo and a mamba max that i decided to change it cause it over heat a lot http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDST5720QBo

So just one question; it is probably that the esc make this strange cause the motor over heat? or the esc cant know that the motor is over heating??
maybe is a stupid question but i dont know anything about electric cars, i just know they are really funny.
Thanx for the support again guys

You should try to go back to the metal spur gear.

Everyone I know with a conversion here in my area (10 or so in Southern California) runs the stock metal spur gear.

Just because a few people have made this gear change out popular, doesn't mean it's is necessary.

I run metal to metal with no problems (I do run a clutch though).

I think if you went to a XL size can it would have the extra torque need to run the smaller spur, I have a 9L on my Rustler which is much lighter than a truggie, the KV speed equivilent of the 9l is a 6XL which runs reaaly hot on 4s I would go to a 8XL which is 2100 kv and you could gear up if you want extra speed but I think you might be happy with your 46 spur mated with maybe a 14-16 tooth spur

i tried a 8xl on the truggy with the 62 spur gear and it wasnt as fast as the 9l like you see on the video, now i have a 7xl that i will run on the revo but maybe i will try also on the truggy.
The 8xl died in a jump on the revo, the front end bell poped out

whith your 8XL system I would have geared up to the 46 tooth spur the larger cans can handle the gear change better due to the increased torque. What size pinion were you using? I would go with a 14-16 tooth ...but the reason your 9L got so hot was it couldnt handle the gear change

long story short

truggy/monster truck-XL can
buggy-L can

and if you need more vehicle speed increase pack voltage or gear up this will result in a happier(cooler) system

thanx guys, but i´ve a few more questions.
If you see that vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDST5720QBo its my truggy with a mamba max, 4s lipo and a 9l feigao, now with the same configuration but different esc ( now using the mgm) the truggy is not as fast as with the mamba max, i dont know why, i suppose it is a problem of setup, like acceleration or something like that.
Also the brakes are very bad, doesn´t brake anything, when i pull the trigger to brake is like i was on half throttle till a few seconds or a 10 meters when it brakes.
I will post a pic of my esc setup so you can help me a little cause i dont understand lot of the parameters that i can choose
Thanx again and hope you understand what i wanna mean heheh
greetings!!!!

Mine did the sames tihing sometimes, stearing obeai but not the controller. I simply switch the controler off and on again, and this is OK.
And for the poor performance with the MGM, don't worry, MGM have a very bad configuration for the LVC.
I run mine on Race mode to obtain decent performance, but you should be carfull, because on race mode, you don't have any protection for your li-po.

I realy don't like MGM and i'll order a MMM soon
