Neu Cover Alternative

I recently got one of the newer-style Neu motors (1512 2.5d) with the screwed-on endcap. Since Mike's Neu covers (which he doesn't seem to stock anymore) won't fit, this is what I did:

Front:

The motor mount covers the majority of the large motor holes, but there are some openings which are still exposed. So, I took a really thin sheet of aluminum and drilled the necessary holes. It will be sandwiched between the motor and mount so it doesn't need to be strong.

Rear:

This one was a little more involved. I tried using screening, but wasn't happy with the result. So, I tried a rigid version and didn't like that either. So, I cut up the failed version, added a dab of shoe-goo (just to help hold it in place while working on it), and then used heatshink to secure it there. A little trimming of the shrink makes a nice clean look. The end-cap screws help hold the shrink in place.

If anyone still has one of Mike's original Neu covers, you could just cut the "lip" off and do the same thing - and it would be better.

e-revonut helped me - Aluminum sticky tape - apparently used in HVAC and dirt cheap...

I thought about that, but wasn't sure if I wanted sticky tape on my ~$250 motor. Probably ok since it's made for heat applications...

I was going to use the AL tape also (I love working for an airplane company!!!).
BTW, Brian, I respect the heck out of your electrical abilities, but I think we should do a labor swap. You do my wiring, and I'll do your hole drilling!!

lol, yeah, the holes aren't perfect. It's what you get when using a fairly dull drill bit and not taking enough time.

The stuff we use is 3M type 425, which is 4.6mil thick, and is good to 300 deg F. Here is the tech data sheet on it http://www.mpsupplies.com/3m425_427AluminumTape.pdf

The holes aren't perfect. And you can see where I used a dremel to file away the edges from the drill bit.

As to the huge drill bit part: I have no idea how linc would know unless one of his ladies told him...

what i did to cover my endbell on my 1.5D/Fs was i took some of the foam stuff that comes in the packaging with Traxxas hop-up parts and cut it out to the size of the endbell then drilled 3 holes slightly smaller than the wires. this way the foam secures tight around the wires and does not allow any dust in. also this helps to hold the foam tight against the motor. finish it off with a little electrical tape and this has worked fine. never had the stuff melt or anything and it looks real clean. i havent even had one person notice that it was there. it just blends right in. also, Outerwears makes some little net filters that are specifically made for the endbell on Neu motors. i found some on ebay and have used those too but dust can get thru those. i since have used them over the top of my own contraption for extra safety. you can see in the pic they just zip tie on and have an elastic on the other end to hold tight around the wires.

just a friendly fyi..... RC-Monster still has the front covers for the neus, buy those from Mike, but do the rest of the stuff in this thread to cover your rear.......
