Crt Diffs To Hb Lsp R&p Help Please - 10.03.2008, 10:04 PM

Hey guys,i'm going to do the HB LSP ring and pinion conversion in my CRT
are these the correct parts i need.??..ring gear...
http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...oducts_id/2898
and ..pinion gear..
http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...oducts_id/2897
...would this be all that i need to do the swap ?? (besides diff gaskets and fluid)
are there any other mods i need to do for the conversion ??
thank you very much for any help

Those are the correct gears. Some 8x10 shims would be a good idea. That way you can shim the diff side to side and the pinion in and out to get good gear mesh. Both ofna and hpi make the shims, I would buy both as the ofna are .3 thick and the hpi are .2 thick. I do not have part numbers but you should be able to search "8x10" or 8x10mm" and find them. Or search shims and read 10 pages...

You are quite welcome. Not sure if there is a write up on shimming diffs here, maybe look around with the search feature. If you can't find anything post back and I will try to get some pics together...

I also had to modify my rear driveshaft...I had to take some material off the inside so it could seat deep onto the pinion gear shaft. I'm not sure if it was something unusual with my driveshaft or with my pinion gear shaft but I had to remove some material or it would put pressure on the center diff.

Since the mod, it's been running great for 2 years.

take the pinions and remove 2mm off of the end that atatches to the shaft also the shimming in the diff case shoule be 3 shims ring gear side and 1 shim on the other side. the gears woill feel notchy when you first build them but after a couple runs they should be butter smooth

hey guys ...i finally am in the process of installing my HB ring and pinions .....i'm installing now but not sure of the shim placement ...where do i use the 8x10 shims ??..on the pinion shaft ?.....i was following the CRT manual book and they just show the 13x16 shims between the bearing and gear case (are those the ones that you guys are saying 3 to one side and 1 on the other)..?? thanks for helping with such noob questions

yup the 13x16 shims space the diff out. did you trim down the hotbodies pinion? if not the smaller shims are used to shim out the center shaft on the pinion

ok thanks for the help ...yes,i did trim the pinion shafts,so all is good there....i tried to put 3 shims on the ring side and 1 on the other but was very notchey feeling and loud (compared to the stock CRT gears, which were very smooth and quiet ) so i tried 2 and 2 ,and seems a little smoother...could i have set them up wrong using 2 shims on each side ?...also i didn't use any shim on the pinion...thanks again for the help

you want them notchy feel they will wear in and be butter smooth.

and if you shaved the pinion gear down no shim is necessary
