Center driveshaft options... - 10.28.2008, 09:35 PM

Looking at the options I have for center driveshafts. Wanted to use old emaxx driveshafts, as I have plenty...

However the pede tranny and the ax10 axles have 5mm inputs. While the driveshafts have 6mm id...

Are there any yokes that will adapt or fit with some modification?

the original t-maxx tranny has 5mm outputs, just get t-maxx 2.5 transmission output yokes and use them with the sliders and balls you want to use

, also, a locker for the pede tranny

Thanks Harold, I actually had some of the 5mm id yokes laying around. Now i am that much closer to finishing the crawler.

James there is a guy on RCC that makes a direct replacement for the ax-10 tranny to run maxx shafts.

Hey chip! I am actually using a pede tranny with ax10 axles. I am currently using pede shafts and the metal yokes on the axle end. Std black plastic yokes on the tranny.

It works well and I plan to put some time on it as is. See how long it lasts...

No prob, I am using a mixture of parts. It is a bit ghetto, but cool in its own way. I have kydex chassis, cutting board upper deck, sportwerks servo mounts, revo pushrods, a few axial links, tamiya mounts, plenty of traxxas parts too...

If it works, do it to it.

The little rcsmart outrunner has tons of torque, much more than a lathe motor, that is for sure. I have a feeling it will wear the shafts out fast. Then I get to try out maxx shafts.

Do you know if anyone makes a yoke that will fit on the axial axle pinion shaft and allow use of the old emaxx style driveshafts?

You could get Mike to make you a pair of bore reducers.

Main issue with the axial pinion shaft is that it is a solid 5mm shaft with a flat area ground on it. If you try to use the 5mm bore tmaxx plastic yokes I have a feeling that they will just distort under load with just a set screw going thru one side. They are designed to work with a pin going all the way thru. I would drill a hole in the pinion shaft, but would like an off-the-shelf part for ease. Plus I really do not like taking the axles apart. Hpi's wheely king geats and pinion shaft could be used, and that pinion shaft will work with a 6mm std old emaxx yoke. But I still need to take the axles apart... And am not sure if the wk gears are any good. And the heavy duty wk gears have the pinion shaft built in by the looks of them.

I don't see the t-maxx yoke distorting, it might. What about grinding a second flat spot and two set screws? both sides of the yoke should be threaded, and you should be able to sneak a dremel in without disassembly?

The yokes are nylon, and that nylon won't hold threads of a machine screw very well (with the amount of torque placed on the set screw to keep the yoke on tight enough).

Exactly. I will try the wk gears and pinion shaft if my pede centers do not hold up. The driveshaft angles are not extreme at all, so I think it will be fine. Just like to have options...

Will jato shats fit pede yokes?

MIP makes some splined HD steel monster shafts for the AX10.

They are very heavy and strong, but a bit pricey.
