Smile My setup! - 12.01.2008, 04:24 AM

well i finally got my set up done only thing i will need is lipos later on down the road.

here is the setup on my truck
Emaxx 3905
MMM v2 with new firmware
C50 9xl clone motor from bidproduct
14 cell spc packs
21t pinion
stock 68 tooth spur(have 62 and 65t waiting in the wings)

and i just ordered my new charger i got
MRC Super brain 989
Astro blinky balancer

you guys think the charger and balancer i got will be good for 5s? i know that the charger can charge up to 8s but i wasnt sure if it will do it in a timely manner. i plan to stick with the zippy and true rc packs would the blinky work with those?

thanks again! and cant wait to get my stuff!! should be here soon and cant wait to ge some video up too.

The blinky should work fine with the zippy lipos, not sure what balance taps the truerc lipos use- a picture would be handy there. The specs dont list the power output of the charger in watts, just its amp and volt ratings, but Im gonna guess its got to be more than 50watts given its good for 10amps of charge current. In that case, it should do most lipos in one hour, which is a 1c charge rate at any given current/ mah capacity.

One more thing:-

The 989 has a power limit of 120w. You should be able to charge your 14 cells as high as around 5.5A without hitting that limit, depending on how high they peak out at (I'm assuming 1.4v/cell).

That's good. Just be ready for insane power when you get the lipos...

Not bad- any specific reason you are using the lower motor mounting location rather than the central one? I doubt your stuff will turn up today though- it may have left towers warehouse, but your local postoffice may kidnap it at some point...

to answer your question neil it rubs in the upper mounting hole. the motor is too fat but im going to mess with it a bit to see if i can get it to go in there.

hopefully it does though because i wouldnt expect that from UPS maybey from USPS. even if it arrives tomorrow it will give me a day to mess with the charger and settings on my MMM and get it right.

so is your motor stil alive?

Yep- not ran it for a little while due to the weather and short daylight hours; it gets dark at 4pm! Good motors though for the price, the fins do make a difference to shedding heat it seems, at the cost of a larger diameter as you found. Thats about my only gripe really- they even come with a flat spot on the shaft now which is a nice touch- I had to grind my own.

I have the 5s 4000mah 20-30c lipos, I busted my tranny twice before I could run them down fully- mucho power there...

If you gear for no more than 40-45mph, then both lipos and motor will do excellently, but it depends alot on weight and gearing- your lighter truck has me at a disadvantage, so you should get better results and not need any cooling down breaks for the motor.
