3 MMM's all toast......WTF?? - 02.18.2009, 02:29 AM

I'm usually pretty quiet about this stuff, but I have gone through 3 MMM's so far in just a few short months. All of them keep doing the same thing. I run them for about 2-3 weeks no problem on practice runs at the track, then they shut off and never turn on again. WTF?? This is ridiculous!! Is their some new version of the MMM that has addressed this problem. I have a race on Sat. (this weekend) and now have no ESC to run

BTW: the setup is a MMM on 4S, 1521 1.5D and geared for only 35mph. Motor and ESC don't even begin to get warm.

Hmm, when I hear something like this, I tend to look deeper. Could it be a servo is shorting out (or under very heavy load) toasting the BEC? Things like that. Sometimes, seemingly unrelated items can cause headaches.

Also, make sure the ESC has version 1.20 firmware.

All of them have had the 1.20 FE, also the BEC is out of the loop. Using a UBEC. Also the steering servo has been swapped since the 2nd MMM was toast went from a Hi-tec to a JR8711, so its not the servo. Also my buddies MMM did the same thing on his E-revo after 3 weeks or so as well. Very upset at this point since the 2nd race of the season I will be scambling to borrow a ESC from someone.

Just to be sure... If you use UBEC did you removed from connector red wire on ESC Signal cable?
What TX/RX system you have?

Yes red cable removed and DX2.0 is the TX/RX. I can put my cheap Turnigy 100A controller and stick 8S on it and run it all day and never have a problem. I have had that controller for almost 2 years now.....no problems with it, or my HV110.

contrary to what Castle says, IMO the HV 110 makes a very good truck ESC, I am not sold on the MMM.

My V1 stopped working yesterday like that. Just decided it wasn't pushing my Gmaxx around anymore and shut off. It works with the castle link but nothing when plugged in, dead bec ? Poor guy almost lived a year. V2 and V3's running fine

yeah, sounds like a dead BEC. The Castle Link powers the brains when connected, so it makes sense that it works when plugged in.

pay attention to your fan. I just experienced a overheat shut down, after getting the truggy back to the pit I found the fan was dead. Offroad dirt are too cruel to the ESC.

yeah thats a bummer, a few people on this forum have had a MMM fail myself included. why do we keep running it? cause its fricken awsome when it works! also where is your esc in the car? is it on the chassis or some where else? i run an rc8 and have found my MMM's like it more low in the car on the chassis. the guys at the local track all run the novak stuff. partly due to the small indoor track and influence by the factory guys. since i have been racing there over the past month ALOT more MMM combos are showing up. dont give up jzemaxx, castle cares about its customers.
