Castle Neu Heatsink? - 06.08.2009, 12:57 AM

I live in AZ and this time of year its really hot outside. When I go out to drive its at least 100*F so my motor seems to get really hot. Are there any heatsinks that will fit the Castle Neu motor? Thanks for the help.

Isn't it a finned can? I would guess you could get a fan (sorry brian), put thermal grease between the mount and the motor, or lower gearing. What's your setup?

I'm running a 19/64 gearing on 5s lipo with a MMM of course. I guess you could call it a fined can, but the fins are like 1mm tall. Maybe lowering the gearing would help.

Check Tekno. It's an emaxx, right?

Not to be a critic, but it's Neu not Nue.... Made that mistake myself too.

Sorry man, I'm really tired. I could have sworn I saw nue on a thread title; maybe it was a different one. That heatsink won't work ether. I think I thought one of the cc/neu mounts on tekno was a heatsink. Other then that, I don't know of a heatsink for the mmm motor...

I can delte those posts if you want....

forget the heatsink and just ziptie a 40mm x 20mm 12v fan to the motor. i have a cheap feigao 7xl overgeared on a emaxx on 4s to 48mph, and i get max temps of 155 throughout the entire run! the huge fan works wonders.

That losi heatsink does fit. I saw a buggy driver using it on his CC/neu at a race yesterday. I didn't specifically ask if he had any trouble putting the heatsink on, but it didn't sound like there was any issue. He said the motor seems to run a fair bit cooler with it. He ended up winning buggy A.
I use a 50mm x 15mm 12v fan (puts out a lot of air on 6s ) on my 1515 and it makes a big difference, especially on warmer days, but haven't used it in summer to test it properly yet. Now, the heatsink, with a fan should run very cool .

The losi heatsink is 39 mm and the cc motor fins are 42 mm. So how would that fit? There is no point in putting a heatsinkin on the fins unless you plan to fill every gap with thermal paste or grinde the fins down. Just ADD A FAN.

The losi heatsink has as split from front to rear, and is bolted together to close that split and clamp around the motor. Doesn't need to stretch much more to fit a 42mm motor.
The guy using one on his buggy said the motor did run cooler with it, but I've also wondered how affective is a heatsink over a finned motor (mainly thinking of the tekno motor mounts)

Aluminium is a very good heat conductor. If the fins are rather short and thick than very long and thin (like on a CPU cooler), adding the heatsink will help with cooling.

I would use whatever is lighter and lower CG. BTW, a hot motor dissipates heat better. If it doesn't get damaged, why run it cooler.

Check this one out. its got a fan, but its for 44mm motors. I could always squeeze it so it would fit right. http://cgi.ebay.ca/%1A44mm-brushless...QQcmdZViewItem
