what's the difference? - 08.08.2009, 03:57 PM

i'm currently runing an 8ight on 6S 30C geared 43/25 with a neu 1515 1Y with an MMM.

i freakin' love the speed. it's unreal. my question is i've figured out how to put manual brakes on it with the rcm mount so now i can run an hv-110 esc up to 10S.

my question is this....

if i do the math, i come very close to the max rpm set on my neu motor the way it is now.

2100 x 25.26v (4.21x6S)= 55,572

so if i get a 1515 1.5Y (1500kv) and run 9S on it i get 56,835.

both ways still get basically the same speed, right?

is there an effeciency advantage in heat?

i'm kinda wondering why i did all this modding if i get the same results as running 6S as to 9S when the motor limits are the motor's REAL rpm limits. can someone lend me an opinion on this?

my other question is.....maybe the smarter question is.... can i run a 1521 in an 8ight?

i once asked this and it was a split opinion. some say the 1521 fits standard motor mounts, but then offshore says this..."Motor hole spacing is 1", most 540 mounts will have to be modified to fit this motor. "

http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...?prod=neu-1521

does anyone have a 1521 they can bolt up to a standard mount?

some might ask..."why?" i like speed and i have virtually no racing within an hour of me.

any help is greatly appreciated.

Yes you get basically the same speed with both setups because your motor RPM is close, motor RPM is directly related to speed of course. The 9S setup will run cooler than the 6S setup due to the increase in effienecy.

BL buggy boy is correct

the entires 15 series will bolt up to the stock mount, your going to need the front spacer plate to clear the mech brakes thought...

THe higher voltage setup will stay cool under higher load (Ie higher gearing) and allow for more speed without heating.

You had better post video. and hope that your good at glueing tires

thanks....but those losi rally tires in my avatar pic are good for atleast 103mph....and i'm knocking on 95 right now. i will post video for sure if i can get a 1521 or 27.

i do have a video of some recent speed runs in the buggy section take a peek if you're inclined to do so .

what are you talking about the front spacer plate clearing the mechanical brakes? i don't understand. maybe a few too many cold ones on my part? can you further explain?

Well the problem is gearing. You are pretty much maxxed out on your gear ratio as of now with the 2200kv motor and you are able to push it. If you can get a larger pinion gear, like the ones from spd-si or whatever it is, then going to the 9s 1.5Y(1500kv) will be in your favor and allow you to turn those larger gears at the same motor RPM.

Then again, there's also the theory that the motor rpm number you are posting are just that, theory. They theoritically should turn that many RPM, UNLOADED tho. Throwing a load on and factoring in drag and aerodynamics, you may only be turning 50,000 rpms right now. Switching to the 9s setup will have even more power and efficiency thus allowing you to push the full 56,000rpms.

I have a 1521 1y that has m3 threads and a 25mm spacing. I also have another 1521 1y that has m4 threads, but still has the 25mm spacing. A 9s setup should be more efficient than the 6s, but there is no guarantee.

Might also be close to maxed out on the motor adjustment on the mount too. A 1521 will pull more gear than the 1515, that is for sure.

It makes a small recess for mech brake pads etc. basically your best friend for this setup.

I have the Neu-Castle 2650 (like a 1512 1Y) and a Tekin T8 1900 4030 (like a 1512 1.5Y). The 1900 on 6s is much faster and has much more pop than the 2650 on 4s, both geared 14/46. The 1900 also runs about 15 degrees cooler. I'd say the the 1900 on 5s geared 16/46 is still a little bit more than the 2650 geared 14/46 on 4s and runs 25 degrees cooler. So you may notice a considerable difference if you go with 1515 1.5Y on 9s vs. a 1515 1Y on 6s.
