Which 1/8 diffs are you going to use with the FLM hybrid? How much are you willing to spend? What aluminum bulks are you going to use with the UE 6 diffs?

Answer those and I'll let you know.

With the FLM hybrids, probably the HotBodies c8178 spiral cut or the c8084-1 diffs.
With the UE 6 diffs, I was thinking Great Assembly or FLM or any other quality aluminum bulkheads.
I am willing to shell about $200-250.
Thanks George.

The hybrids were a paint to build and shim correctly, IIRC. Plus getting a diff out requires alot of disassembly. But the diffs should not need much attention, at least compatred to the stock maxx diffs.

so the UE are easier to assemble? How do these differ in quality/durability? That's all I'm really after.
Also, If going the UE route, how are the Hot Racing quick-diff-release bulks...that should cut down on disassembly.

The UE diffs are just regular Hyper 7/8/8.5 with UE's diff output shafts while the Hot Bodies are hardened diffs. I don't have any experience with FLM's hybrid bulks but I do have UE's VBS bulks GA bulks with UE's 8 and 6 spyder gears respectively. Setup is easier on the VBS compared to the GA bulks.

If I were you, I'd buy the UE diff outputs from UE and the Ofna or Hot bodies diff from ebay and the GA or FLM bulks. This will cost you less than $200.

UE's VBS:

okay thanks for the help George, again! Pics were nice!
Do the GA bulks have the diff cases machined in like the hybrids do? By looking at the pic you provided they don't. So when you say to go with the ofna or hot bodies diffs, UE output shafts, and the GA or FLM hybrids, did you mean just the FLM hybrids? Sorry if i'm confusing =)
Also, what size UE diff outputs?
And will this diff work with the Hybrid bulkhead:

The GA bulks don't have the diff cases machined into them. You have to use alum diff cases like on the 3rd picture above. You can buy those from UE also for $70 apiece.

So for a GA/FLM setup, you'll need the following:
GA/FLM bulks
ALum diff cases
Diff and pinions from either Ofna or Hot bodies
UE output shafts

For a hybrid setup, you'll need the following:
FLM hybrid bulks
Diff and pinions from either Ofna or Hot bodies
UE output diffs

The ebay link you posted will work but the diff ratio is 43/11. The ofna hyper 7/8/8.5 have a ratio of 43/13. You can compensate your ratio by using an appropriate spur/pinion combo.

okay, so i could just buy the ebay item, sell the 11t pinion and buy a 13t pinion, then use with the Hybrids, or I could use the UE ultralight cases w/ GA or FLM bulks..
BTW what size output shafts are needed? 6mm?

So george, are u saying that UE 8 spiders are better than hot bodies? Would really like to hear feedback from you since you have tried both..

On UE's site the guy states that he tried to cause failure to both the 6 and 8 spider diffs. The guy managed to break the 8's but not the 6's, stating that the torq diffs are not meant to handle a powerful brushless system, and that the 6 gear diffs were able to hold up.

I still have to break any of them (Hot Bodies 6 or Ofna 8 spiders). I had also good luck with the 6 spider diffs (Ofna and Kyosho). The Ofna's are cheaper compared to the Hot bodies ($20-25 against $60-64 respectively).

I'm currently running Ofna 8 spider diffs in my gorillamaxx on 5S/6S with the Castle Neu 2200Kv motor.

Hmm interesting..I read in UE forum that Monstermaxx (owner) managed to break the UE 6s not as 8s installed in his dually BL truck. But that was couple of years back. Do you have the link for this? I want to read what actually failed in the 8s..

The torsens were the weak ones not the 6 or regular 8 spider diffs. Besides, the torsens are expensive (140 from Ofna).
