Fix aluminum wheel to tire.. -
02.22.2007, 10:01 AM
Do you guys know how to do that?
I used regular super glue, but it did no good.
Should I use thread lock or something?
Thanks,
Alawi El-Jifri :)

Superglue can work but you need to carefully prep the surfaces of both the tire and the bead area of the rim. the rim should be prepped by scuffing with medium scotchbrite or 180g-240G sandpaper and the tire bead can be scuffed plus both wiped down with rubbing alcohol or acetone prior to the application of the superglue. Losi's "tire superglue" works well.
If that fails another alternative is:

Rubber cement would peel too easily. Contact cement might work though.

A customer came into the LHS I work at asking for this stuff call Black CA or something like that. It is used by many for things such as attaching tires to aluminum wheels. It's pretty much CA glue with some black stuff in it. Sorry I can't give any more info. on it.

Here's some:

It's possible that I confused this glue with glueing two CF plates together. But I seem to recall that the customer I was talking to was wanting the Black CA for gluing tires to aluminum wheels... Anyone have any experience with this?

black ca has rubber in it, so when boneded (over one day for me) it is like rubber u can pull on it and it will stretch just like rubber and is VERY hard to get off, but i have only used it on plastic wheels
